COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our head brewer at our Windsor brewery homebrewed a batch of chocolate stout for himself after trying the style at a beer dinner and loving it. After several Harpooners tried Scott’s batch, we knew that we needed to add this beer to our lineup. It was originally introduced as a limited edition extra in our winter mix pack back in 2008, but it was soon apparent that our drinkers wanted more of this beer (a beer made with chocolate…not too hard to understand!), so we brought it back in 6-packs in 2010.

Description
A chocolate stout is a beer with a noticeable dark chocolate flavor. This flavor is created from the use of darker, more aromatic malt that has been roasted or kilned until it acquires a chocolate color. Harpoon Chocolate Stout is brewed with an abundance of chocolate malt and a touch of chocolate.

Pours a fading head that lasts around the glass that is tan with a dark, clear brown body. Aroma and flavor is a milk chocolate milkshake with alcohol. Not too bad.

Appearance: looks like a stout should; dark brown to black, with a fluffy tan head. Aroma: strong aroma of sweet dark creamy chocolate, dark toasted malts and some fresh coffee. Taste: dark chocolate, sweet cream, a hint of cherries and dark brown bread. Finish: dry, smooth and slightly sweet; the chocolate lingers. Notes: The most chocolatey of the chocolate stouts I’ve had this season. Very tasty, but the chocolate was just a hint on the too-sweet side.

Heavy, bitter, and rich with a taste very much like bakers choclate. the hop spice came out a bit through the malt and helped bring it together. It reminded me of getting into my moms baked goods. Very delicious. this is my first review so go easy on me

Bottle courtesy of pikapp327. Pours a dark brown color with some red highlights. Tannish head. Huge chocolate aroma. Sweet milk chocolate, bakers chocolate and yoohoo. Flavor of dark bitter chocolate with heavy malts and cocoa beans. Sweet milky finish with a great mouthfeel.

Bottle. Pours very dark brown with a small, foamy brown head. Aromas of sweet milk chocolate and cane sugar, vanilla, and caramel. Flavor is mildly bitter cocoa, grass, and a little sweet milk chocolate; a bit disappointing and one-dimensional here. Medium carbonation and slightly creamy. It’s alright, but fell apart at the flavor for me.

12 oz bottle. Motor oil color. Thin tan head that left AWESOME lacing and covered my glass on the way down. A pleasant sweet DEEP chocolate aroma that made me think of extra dark chocolate candy. Palate is sweet dark chocolate with a DEEP intoxicating ,roasted coffee flavor. For some; this maybe to sweet of a stout, but not for me! If you like sweet stout, buy this!

12oz Bottle, purchased at Wakefield Liquors - Wakefield, RI. Distinct boiled hershey’s syrup aroma right at the beginning, followed by a gentle movement of roast and chocolate malt. Pours a brown-black, with plenty of soapy bamboo-colored head. Flavors give off more of that canned, cooked, corn-based, hershey’s flavor that I find off-putting. Wasn’t expecting it, just hoping for a chocolatey-tasting stout. In the end, that overriding character and the general flaccidness of this beer make it undesirable for the style.
