COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed using locally-grown cranberries, this beer captures the spirit of a true New England Thanksgiving: the harvest celebration and the sharing of food amongst friends. Fermented with a traditional ale yeast that lets the cranberries provide the signature aroma, this beer is balanced by the ‘bready’ notes of the Vienna and Munich malts.

Poured a clear copper color with small white head and little lacing. Aromas of hay, with light notes of cranberries. Taste is sweet, not as much tartness as expected and though the cranberries are there, I expected more. Overall, pretty decent brew from the malts but was left wanting more cranberry flavor and more of an effervescent palate.

The aroma is malty and sweet with some hops but almost no detectable cranberries. The appearance is amber with a small head. The taste is like the aroma. The palate is average. Overall a good to drink beer but does not live up to being a cranberry beer.

Bottle. Poured reddish brown color and an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with fair lacing. Moderate tart fruit and dough aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and lively carbonation. Medium tart fruit flavor with a medium tart finish of moderate duration. Refreshing fruit beer.

On tap at the brewery, served in a tasting glass. Pours clear caramel with a moderate, frothy, off-white head. The head remains and leaves a moderate amount of fine lace. On the nose, there are notes of cranberries, apple, caramel, bread and spice. The flavour is moderately sweet throughout with fruity notes and a hint of spice. The finish is long, sweet and slightly spicy. On the palate, it is light-medium in body with a milky texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this fruit ale is disappointingly simple. Cranberries seem to have so much potential as a brewing ingredient, but this brew underwhelms with simplicity. 2011-11-25

Pours an amber red with a fruity spicey aroma. Has a sweet finish and goes down smooth. Delivers on the description.

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Pours a clear amber with a one finger tan head. Good lacing and head retention. Smell is of very tart fruit. There is a tiny bit of malt that comes through. The flavor is very tart. Way too heavy on the cranberries here. I cannot really detect any malt at all. The beer finished crisp and dry with no hops to speak of. Mouthfeel is light. This is just not my kind of beer. The cranberries and accompanying tartness is way over the top.

I’ve seen this on the shelves the last few years and never thought once about buying it. This year someone left a bottle at my house, so I guess this is the year. Pours a medium copper color with a good sized white head that displays moderate retention and lace. Smells malty with caramel and brown sugar and that distinctive aroma of cranberries. Smell is sweet and fruity and not bad actually. Taste is exactly what I expected from the aroma. Brown bread, syrupy, caramel, cranberry sauce. It was fun at first, but about half way down the glass I got real tired of the fruity sweetness. Medium body with a spirited level of carbonation, sweet almost syrupy mouthfeel. One sweet and fruity beer that I’m glad I got to try, but that I can pass up again next year.

Better than expected, this beer from Harpoon carries a slight cherry/berry flavor with the malt. There is an aftertaste that is slightly unpleasant, with this same "aftertaste" being present in the aroma as well. The flavor doesn’t stick around long either, as the beer has little body. Decent, but a little off-putting for regular drinking.

Deep brown with a red tint. Malty, sweet cranberry burst in the aftertaste. Very nice. Typically fine Harpoon offering.
