CheersMate1 (350), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Apr 6, 2008 Strong caramel malt aroma. This is actually a decent smelling beer. The sweet caramel smell just dominates. I tell you this is a very pungent beer, and it took me by surprise. If the name Irish Style Red Ale is supposed to be indicative of the color, it does a poor job. The color is the plain caramel brown. The head faded away fast. Wow, this beer has an extreme caramel maltiness, but it is very dry. I thought this beer would be creamier, but it is far from it. The beer does not have a wide range of flavours. Very boring with flaavour, but a very strong and great smell. I wouldn’t pay the $7 or $8 for this beer. I bought this as a single for 50 cents, so I don’t feel cheated.
Rciesla (1580), Brick City, New Jersey, USA Oct 29, 2008 Bottle. Pours a mahogany amber body with an off white head. Light malt, diactyl, apple with some fragrant floral hoppiness. Spiced with brown sugar. Overall it fell short of expectations. puggy211 (404), cordova, Tennessee, USA Sep 20, 2008 Light coppery amber w/ a medium lasting very light beige head. Caramel and yeasty, seems like English ale yeast aroma. Medium green apple & lightly toasty malt. Some floral hop. Flavor is well balanced, and definitely yeasty in the finish & aftertaste; malty up front w/ a caramel green apple flavor in the middle. It seems a bit thin up front in the flavor to me as most of the flavor is in the mid palate throught the aftertaste. Hints of diacetyl in the finish as well. Lighter medium body, smooth m/f, medium carbonation. Not a bad beer, but non distinct and middle of the road IMHO. DrDavid (673), Johnson, Vermont, USA Sep 14, 2008 (Bottle). Lightly sweet aroma. Reddish amber with light tan head. Flavor is mild and watery, some sweet malt, very watery finish, with candy notes, like weak kool-aid. Body is very light. beerbill (1455), Laurel, New York, USA Aug 14, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Pours a clear red with a moderate-large off-white head that completely disappeared before I had finished a quarter of the glass. Weak aroma of malt and a touch of brown sugar. The flavor is malt along with just a bit of unsweetened iced tea. Mild bitterness at the finish. A tad thin, but not watery. blankboy (2711), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 12, 2008 Bottle. Pours a clear orange-amber with an average size diminishing off-white head. Mild aroma of caramel malt, sugary sweetness, fruit, grain and maybe some hops. Meh. Flavour’s pretty much the same with caramel malt, grain and fruit -- pretty watery, maybe some hops in the finish. Light bodied. Pretty boring stuff -- not for me.
