Last fall our brewers were improvising a new beer in our 10-barrel kettle. We had some fresh pumpkin puree leftover from a recent brew of our UFO Pumpkin, so the brewers threw that in the kettle with a bit of molasses, cinnamon, nutmeg, and some roasted malts. It turned out to be delicious, so we thought we’d share it with everyone.

Half imperial stout, half pumpkin ale, with aromas of dried fruit, chocolate, and freshly baked pumpkin pie, this black full-bodied stout is ready to be enjoyed now or saved for a chilly fall evening.

Poured a deep dark colour with a faint but lasting head. Semi hot in the mouth with alcohol. Lots of pumpkin flavours, maybe too much.

Dark brown pour with a3 finger light brown head.malt and Carmel aromas. Very sweet taste Heavy on the roasted malts (coffee). I would have a hard time guessing this was a pumpkin beer,I do get the nutmeg and cinnamon as a late after taste.

From the bottle. Pours dark cola aroma of spice and hint of pumpkin. A smooth mouth feel with heavy clove taste and aftertaste. Meh!

Not for me. Appearance was cola. Aroma and taste for me were both way too heavy on the spices. Allspice and clove all over, to the point that it has an almost medicinal quality to it. The pumpkin was a sideman. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

(bottle - 22 oz) Copper pour with a thin off-white head. Lots of spice in the aroma. Pumpkin, molasses, and ginger are the most apparent. Flavor is pumpkin at the start but then the amalgamation of spices take over and just confuse everything. I’m not really sure what it is.

On tap at the Vermont brewery: Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of pumpkin, nutmeg, roasted malt, and lots of sugar. Taste is of a sweet imperial stout, a bit of chocolate, lots of spices, and pumpkin. This is malty but not overly cloying. Medium body. Not bad, but not great.

2014 Vintage. Dark brown to black with some amber hues 1 finger espresso head. Smells like every other pumpkin beer..lots of yams, spice and brown sugar. This has a ton of spice. like eating pumpkin spice…straight up! it’s intensely spicy. totally overshadows the pumpkin. “drink your medicine!” LOL
