Sammys (428), Portland, Maine, USA Dec 1, 2005 On Tap, Great Lost Bear, Portland, ME. Black, little lacing, no head. Mouthfeel was surprisingly light for an imperial stout. Quite malty and sweet up front, with some subtle and well integrated roastiness. It did however lack the chewiness I’m used to in imperial stouts. I detected very little hop character...until about 2 minutes after I’d taken a couple sips, and burped, whereupon I was treated to some lovely, fresh, floral cascade flavor. Very interesting, and it is part of the whole experience. I like it in it’s own way, but it’s different than the other Imperial Stouts I;ve had.

puzzl (1821), New York, New York, USA Jan 2, 2007 2005 bottle. Boozy, fruity aroma, slighty fig and smoke. Bubble gum, vodka, roast, brandy. Good complexity, but not really that enticing. Pour has zero head. Very smooth palate, though not creamy. Still too much fruitiness getting in the way, residual sweetness. This definitely couldve been fermented out more and become IMO a much better beer. Still, it’s not too bad. DocLock (4170), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 23, 2006 Bottle from Half Time. Deep onxy pour with tan head. Aroma of rich dark patent malt, figgy fruit, chocoff. Tastes rich and roasty malty, with chocoff, figs, prunes, and slight nuts. Nicely done. xproudfoot (730), Paleolithic, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 22, 2006 Chalky earth dark chocolate roast aroma. india ink pour with short light brown. heavy chalk bitter chocolate, light coffee, long finish, weakly sweet. thick-stick palate. Good aroma of chocolate, dough, anc some raisin and plum. Flavor is sweet bakers chocolate blended with some plum and raisin and even some black currant on the finish.. Palate is somewhat creamy. Low carbonation and the alcohol is covered fully. Not bad at all..
