3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JAN 2, 2011 Rerate Just not as enamored this time around. Flavorful IPA, but pretty pedestrian. Original 3.7 On tap at Legal Seafoods, Crystal City, Va. Light orange appearance, fluffy white head, good lacing. Fresh sprucey aroma. Grapefruit, citrusy flavor, west coast hops very evident but not overpowering. Finishes strong. Good companion to crab stuffed shrimp. Excellent IPA.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
A decent IPA with a good bite behind it. Pours an orangish color, smells and tastes of citrus/grapefruit. The citrus overpowers the flavor of hops however.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Poured a clear orange yellow, a much clearer yellow than I woudl've expected. Aroma was more yeast than hops with a bit of grapefruit hidden underneath. On tasting it I got some grapefuit at the front and back of the beer with almost a lull in between. Not as much hops as I'm used to in an IPA. I found it relatively okay but not as good as I had hoped. Maybe it's the tap?

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
UPDATED: APR 24, 2004 Pours a pale orange or dark yellow, with decent head and lacing. Aroma is citrus/orangish.Flavor is of some fruitness and malt, but the hoppiness is too light and not bitter enough, considering this is supposed to be an IPA. A decent beer, but not a good IPA.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a pale orange with a sizeable white head (although I cracked it open a little colder than I probably should have); lacing down the glass. Aroma is floral and of orange/citrus. Not very sweet; some hops in the end but not very much considering this is classified as an IPA. Doesn't stand up great as an IPA, but this is a decent ale that is drinkable and is probably one of Harpoon's better offerings.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
One of my absolute favorite beers. I love IPA's and this is beer doesn't disappoint. The perfect amount of bitterness mixed with a nice crisp after taste. When i sit down with nice, fresh pizza, there is no beer I would rather have.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: MAY 16, 2005 House ale for Tiernan’s Pub in downtown Boston. This was a fairly standard, but good APA. A blonde PA, nicely hopped. No incredible subtleties, just straightforward good drinking. Cascade-y PA aroma. Enough hopping to make it interesting. Doughy, somethimes. Fair enough.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On draft at the Druid's keep. Big creamy head; spicy-hop aroma (Northern Brewers?) - definitely "distict" hop finish. Great drinking.

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
For my money, one of the best inexpensive IPAs ($10/12-pack). Strong hoppy aroma that's almost rubbery, but the taste is a lot more appealing than I just made it sound. Pours opaque golden with a medium white head that lasts. Great flavor: balanced, just hoppy enough to make a good IPA, acidic overtones of citrus. It might not be my all-time favorite India pale, but it's certainly the best value among good ones.
