This copper colored ale is floral, medium bodied, with a crisp, refreshing finish. Originally our summer seasonal in 1993, it is now available year-round. Harpoon IPA was ranked atop both domestic and imported IPAs by Beer Connoisseur Magazine.

It all looked great from the start. But once I tasted it...nothing much after that. Clear copper color with a lacing white head. But not much hops in the taste. Did not taste like an IPA. Too smooth. On draft at Hero's in Manassas, VA.

Had this on tap while at the Tage Inn in Boston. Bronze body with a small tan head and a lively hop nose. It's not overpowering but is very pleasant. The taste is hop laden but not like a west coast IPA, and has a light oily and piney body. Some malt in the mix as well. Holds up well to other IPA's and was great on draft with a burger. Finished with little bitterness. Surprisingly better than I expected it to be.

Light, copper golden ale. Floral hoppy nose (cascades). Slight sweetness in body, hoppy, but not excessively bitter finish. Dry finish. Good hoppy American IPA, but not as extreme as some of the more recent offerings to the style.

UPDATED: JUN 8, 2006 12oz bottle: Rather pale yellow color with smallish white head. Aroma is crisp, slightly ager-like, very faint herbal hops. Flavor is somewhat malty, bit metallic, touch of honey.

Golden hue with nice frothy head and very good lace. Light piney, grapefruit, lemongrass, hay field, and twangy yeast esters. Crsip and clean mouthfeel with a leading taste of fruity and piney hops with mild malt undertone. Lingering minor bitterness and the dry finish. Thin-bodied. Quaffable, easy going IPA, not big and bold. Good way to start the nights drinking.

It was nice looking, sweet smelling, smooth tasting, crisp and hoppy; No real flaws, nothing truly extraordinary.

Clear golden body topped by a small tan head. Aroma is floral and somewhat citric. Taste is floral, grainy and a bit strong. Finish is somewhat sour. Definitely the English version of the style.

pours golden with a large frothy white head. mild floral hop aroma. taste is herbal with some understated citrus hop flavor, no discernible malt character, watery and thin, and hops are very subdued for an IPA. A fairly pleasant and easy drinking beer, but their are many better IPA's to be found.
