This copper colored ale is floral, medium bodied, with a crisp, refreshing finish. Originally our summer seasonal in 1993, it is now available year-round. Harpoon IPA was ranked atop both domestic and imported IPAs by Beer Connoisseur Magazine.

This IPA doesnít compare well w/ some of the others Iíve had. It isnít hoppy enough. The initial taste is bland, w/ a somewhat hoppy finish. Also, it doesnít have as much aroma as other IPAís

Rerate (in comparison to Bellís Two Hearted). In different company this thing doesnít shine quite as brightly, but itís still a strong, decent IPA, one good for introducing folks to the style. Original rating: 11/19/01 Well, I made a strong attempt to try all the local brews, but the best beer I had on my recent Baltimore trip was this one, far and away. This may be because I was there to party and this beer is exceptionally quaffable, its spicy hops strong but not overly challenging and the balance accomplished with a pleasant berry accented malt.

This is a re-rate since I have grown to love IPAís now - a true copper color, nice & hoppy, just the right amount of spice & hops in the finish & aftertaste, very smooth, good IPA

A poor excuse for an IPA.

Slightly malty, little hop aroma. Not very hoppy for an IPA. Pretty average for the style. Still, quite a drinkable beer.

RE-RATE: Interestingly, nearly one year since I last tasted this. Iím giving it a slight bump in score as I believe I was a bit harsh originally. Not much of a Cascade or hop nose. More like dirty gym socks. Caramel malt tickles your tongue somewhat up front and quickly subsides to an astringent hop middle and a well balanced ending. I still contend that this brew does nothing to distinguish itself, as it seems to be an IPA geared towards a person who is just dabbling into the world of beer. Not quite hoppy enough and not even close to full bodied or full flavored, although it does improve as it warms. ORIGINAL: (3-26-01) This is a poor excuse for an IPA. The six pack I had was out of balance with no distinguishing chacteristics whatsoever.

UPDATED: JAN 8, 2008 RERATE 1/07: Copper body, floral nose, nice white head with lacing. Nicely balanced with good hop flavors and lacking excessive bitterness.

An excellent IPA; compares well with Hop Devil; Harpoon beers superior to Sam Adams beers when comparing the Boston breweries.
