4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Served at Redbone’s in Somerville, MA as "Dryhopped Harpoon IPA with Charlie’s Homegrown Fuggles"
Golden color and mildly cloudy. Great lace left by a modest head.
Smells like a high-hopped homebrew, meaning I can detect some spent yeast, lighter malt and fresh floral hop. Very nicely balanced for the style.
Served appropriately warm, approximately 50 degrees (cask conditioned). Again the blend is very pleasant -- the hop is more mild than most IPA’s but it is pronounced. This continues through the swallow and aftertaste. The body is full with an expected lighter carbonation level.

To start, I must admit having a soft spot for this beer. When it was first introduced, it was the best IPA I had up to that point. Throughout New England, this is my favorite regularly available beer. That said, it is not my favorite IPA any longer, but it is worthy of this review.
A-color is honey to light amber. Has a two-finger head that leaves clumpy lace on the glass.
S-Floral hop bouquet, although this muted from some of the "big" IPA’s now available. This bottle had a slight refridgerator smell.
T/M-Nice bitter flavors with a moderate body and an above average carbonation. Fairly smooth in terms of mouthfeel. The aftertaste is largely bittering hop.
D-I find this to be the quintessential drinking IPA. It’s not too pronounced in any of the areas that some IPA’s are prone to. A consistent performer.

Decent IPA, but missing the strong hoppy bitterness I like. Very smooth, drinkable and enjoyable though.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Not a very impressive IPA. Pale golden. Minimal hoppiness, instead there is a slightly unpleasant bitterness on the finish, maybe a hint of lemon peel. Overall the taste is thin and watery with the primary theme being pine rosin and alcohol. Meh.

3.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Nice malty citrus hop aroma. Not bitter or floral. Amber clear color. Not overly complex in taste but a very easy drinking and balanced beer. A slight hop note at first with a big malt finish. Light and malty on the palate.
An easy drinking beer. Good for a beginner with the IPA style.

Nicely balanced ipa. Golden brown poured from a tap. Not too hoppie. Very enjoyable ipa.

This beer is a happy middle that doesn’t make my middle very happy. I get upset stomach but it is still tasty.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: MAR 22, 2014 Harpoon IPA seems to be one of those beers that’s either pretty overrated or harshly under-appreciated - no happy medium. In my mind, it is, in fact, right in the middle. It’s a good IPA with a very nice balance. It could, however, benefit from more hop flavor. I’d like to see a bigger and more diverse hop profile. As is, that note is singular and a bit understated. Still, this is a good IPA if not the strongest, most balanced, or most unique.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Medium gold color, 3/4 inch head lasted halfway thru, good lacing. Moderately hopped and left a long thin hop taste. Initially seemed hoppier, but that may have been due to a slight lack of malt. Refreshing, though

UPDATED: DEC 24, 2013 Not that fan of the floral aroma. Looks very nice. Not that much taste. No aftertaste.
Edit: had this again. More pleasant than previously described.

Bottle to glass at room temp. Slight citrus smell and slight hoppy taste, but overall quite a bland beer.
