This copper colored ale is floral, medium bodied, with a crisp, refreshing finish. Originally our summer seasonal in 1993, it is now available year-round. Harpoon IPA was ranked atop both domestic and imported IPAs by Beer Connoisseur Magazine.

golden body; creamy head. Aroma is juicy citrus with pencil shavings, cough syrup & toast. flavor comes across sour, with grains and a little dry bitterness peeking through. the aftertaste isnít very desirable.

12oz bottle. Poured into a shaker glass and a thick head soon followed. Smell is a little on the weak side, but what scent there is smells citrusy. It shares the typical clear orange color that other ipaís exhibit. Drinks smoothly, but for an ipa, it is weak on hops. Lacing covered the entire glass throughout the drinking period. Overall, i found it to be a pretty mediocre ipa.

Draught in Boston. Pretty average IPA overall. No strong characteristics overall. Just seemed a little bland and dusty.

This was the first beer I had in America after returning from Belgium. As great as the Belgian beers were, they were very light on the hops (at least for my American palate). I thought the hoppiness of an IPA would knock my socks off, but this one is pretty weak on the bitterness. You ever have a cigarette after not having smoked for months or years, and having to sit down due to the effect? I was expecting the rough equivalent of that in terms of hoppiness, and I was disappointed. It poured a tan color with quite a bit of head. Aroma was pretty weak, but moderately sweetly hoppy. Flavor was some floral hoppiness bolted on a fairly thin malt backbone. Mouthfeel was a bit watery. Not a very good beer...why did I have three? I would not recommend this beer. I had this on-tap at the Indigo restaurant in Alexandria, formerly known as Potowmack Landing.

Nothing inspiring here, on the whole. Hops sort of got lost, and some pallid bitterness. Alarmingly clear.

Tap @ Plough and Stars... Poured faint orange with a thick white head. Aroma of faint grains, very bready. Overly dry palate and not enough bitterness to balance it. Big malts, very lagarish in profile -- not hoppy or aggressive enough. Sweet grains in the finish,

Eh this was a pretty weak IPA. It wasnít bad, but nothing really stood out...............Harpoon definitely has some better beers out there. LC
