Filtered and force carbonated.
Ingredients: Water, Three malts, including a 2-row pale, Northwest Cascade Hops, and Yeast.
This copper colored ale is floral, medium bodied, with a crisp, refreshing finish. Originally our summer seasonal in 1993, it is now available year-round. Harpoon IPA was ranked atop both domestic and imported IPAs by Beer Connoisseur Magazine.

UPDATED: JUN 8, 2006 12oz bottle: Rather pale yellow color with smallish white head. Aroma is crisp, slightly ager-like, very faint herbal hops. Flavor is somewhat malty, bit metallic, touch of honey.

12 oz bottle, shaker glass. Tall, fizzy, foamy, white head looks just like almost every other PA/IPA I've had. Copper colored body is clear with lively carbonation. Toasted grain malt (mod); citric (grapefruit, lime) hops (mod); apple, pear aromas. There's also something medicinal to the aroma. Lightly sweet, lightly bitter flavor becomes a lightly sweet, moderately bitter, moderately acidic finish. Pear flavor is almost overwhelming. Lightly astringent, watery texture, medium body, lively carbonation. The bottom line is: HELP! A pear tree died in my beer!

Bottle. Got this one from JZ at the 2003 Beer exchange. I love IPA's and this is not a great one by any means. Poured a small 1/4" head which immediately abandoned me. Not much aroma (strike 1) and a very light copper color. Not much sweetness or citrus in the first taste but it was quite bitter. Not a lot of body and it was without the wonderful changes in bitterness and sweetness that good IPA's have (strike 2). Lacing was not striking and as the beer warmed it remained unremarkable (strike 3). Not terrible, but not a top shelf India Pale Ale.

Slightly bitter/grapefruity hops. Pretty nice hoppy aroma and a bit of sweet malt in there too. Effervescent yet smooth palate.

Bottled: Golden coloured. Off white medium sized head. Hoppy and malty aroma. Not as distinct as I like it. Flavour is a bit watery and bland. Dies quickly on the palate. This isnít the most interesting american beer, but nevertheless its my no. 100 american. Thanks Jacob and Martin for sharing.

Good beer. Pours an orange color with a thin head. Has a hint of spiceyness and is hoppy.

UPDATED: MAR 22, 2005 (12 oz bottle: Obtained in trade with shadey, thanks Shane!) Smells and tastes like a hoppy cream ale. Itís mildly sweet and grainy, a bit of vanilla in there, and the moderate nuttiness seems stronger than it is because there isnít much else in the flavor to challenge the nuttiness. Moderately bitter, especially in the finish, but itís not a pleasant bitterness. The medium bodied beer has a creamy palate, but the floral hops bite finishes a bit harshly. Medium gold color. Whitish head pours to average size, soon fades to a thin layer, and leaves a decent amount of droopy lacing on the glass. Another subpar east coast IPA.<P>(12 oz bottle: Obtained in trade with slob, thanks Bert!) A second try with this IPA, and Iím getting a fair amount of honey sweetness in the nose. Sweet, honey flavor matches the aroma. Grainy, malty flavor. I mentioned a vanilla flavor before, and while Iím not sure itís vanilla, thatís close enough. Compared to the really good IPAs, this beer lacks quality malt, but REALLY lacks quality hops. This is like your average brewpub beer, or maybe even a "craft" brew from the macros, but doesnít even come close to being a quality craft-brewed IPA. Color and appearance are similar to my previous rating ... average. I rate this beer, "Bah, whatever."

ok appearance, golden yellow, with decent lacing and a mostly diminishing head. I would like a stronger hop aroma and flavor. Good drinkability, but so does water... Not very exciting. Iíd guzzle these after a hot day, but not to appreciate its complexity. I can hardly taste anything.

Light amber color. Smell of grapefruit, hops and apple vinerger. Taste of citrus, hops and flowers. Bitter taste at the end. Very water down IPA.
