3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pours a deep midnight black with a medium sized tan head that deflates quickly. Piles of roast, dark stone fruit, smoke, chocolate, coffee, and a few light esters. Body is medium thick, helped out by the fine carbonation. Finishes with bitter cocoa, and almost a touch of smoke.

porter oscura y fuerte, no tanto mi tipo, cada vez me confirma que me gustan mas las brown / dark ales pero que no llegan a stouts.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
One heavy porter. Dark as a stout, thin white head gave it away that it wasn’t, quite. The bitter and chocolate tastes come right to the forefront. Is there such a thing as a baltic stout? This would be close. A one-a-night beer.

2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Deep dark brown coloured body with a lighter ruby tint and a very thin tan head - tons of bubbles show rising from the sides when held up to a light. Aroma of roasted malt, pit fruits, raisins, caramel and a bunch of nuts. Full-bodied; Chewy mouthful of nuts, alcohol, caramel and light spices. Aftertaste is super potent, a lot of alcohol and unrefined sugars show. Aftertaste show caramel, malt and oak. Overall, nothing Baltic Porter about this one - more of a bitter dubbel than anything else - perhaps an ’Imperial Brown’, but this is definitely not a ’decent’ Baltic Porter - try Zywiec if you want a real one. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from OIiver’s Beverage in Albany, New York on 22-December-2008, sampled at home in Washington on 12-January-2009.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
This was of course pitch black, almost purple-black... very minimal head and low levels of carbonation. Aroma of pungent roasty malts, roasted nuts, and loads of dried dark fruits. Very heavy and intense fruity flavors, surprisingly sweet yet still maintaining a huge dark-roasted malt presence. Definitely a hint of chocolate as well. And alcohol. Extremely thick and heavy body, very viscous... a beer that takes awhile to drink. Not that memorable really, definitely a well-made beer though...certainly glad I got the chance to try it.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle poured into a snifter produced two fingers worth of tan head that lasted a long time. This of course topped of a pitch black body brew
Aromas of dark fruits and dark malts are forthright in this brew. Followed by a slight alcohol note along with some hops
Roasted malts are really present in this brew. You get the espresso and dark chocolate, not much sweetness in it at all but that is not necessarily a bad thing. Nice and thick in the mouthfeel department
This is a great finishing brew for the night for me, especially on this snowy New England night. I have had better Baltic’s but this one is spot on style

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a five-finger brown head that takes a while to fade leaving a good lace. Totally black color. Good carbonation and heavy bodied. Malty nose. Flavor is a smoky caramel and chocolate. Clean finish. One of Harpoon’s best offerings. $3.00 for a 750ml bottle from a Tully’s Beer & Wine Wells, ME.
