Dark fruit and bittersweet chocolate notes meld into a spicy finish of this hearty beer made with de-husked roasted malts and a lager yeast. 23.5°, 38IBUs

This was of course pitch black, almost purple-black... very minimal head and low levels of carbonation. Aroma of pungent roasty malts, roasted nuts, and loads of dried dark fruits. Very heavy and intense fruity flavors, surprisingly sweet yet still maintaining a huge dark-roasted malt presence. Definitely a hint of chocolate as well. And alcohol. Extremely thick and heavy body, very viscous... a beer that takes awhile to drink. Not that memorable really, definitely a well-made beer though...certainly glad I got the chance to try it.

Bottle poured into a snifter produced two fingers worth of tan head that lasted a long time. This of course topped of a pitch black body brew Aromas of dark fruits and dark malts are forthright in this brew. Followed by a slight alcohol note along with some hops Roasted malts are really present in this brew. You get the espresso and dark chocolate, not much sweetness in it at all but that is not necessarily a bad thing. Nice and thick in the mouthfeel department This is a great finishing brew for the night for me, especially on this snowy New England night. I have had better Baltic’s but this one is spot on style

Pours a five-finger brown head that takes a while to fade leaving a good lace. Totally black color. Good carbonation and heavy bodied. Malty nose. Flavor is a smoky caramel and chocolate. Clean finish. One of Harpoon’s best offerings. $3.00 for a 750ml bottle from a Tully’s Beer & Wine Wells, ME.

12 oz. bottle via trade with notalush - Pours a dark brown color with a one and a half finger thick light tan head. Light lacing. Aroma is a dusty roasted malt, dark esters and a dose of dark chocolate. Flavor is roasted malt, a hint of smokiness, and light chocolate. Medium body. Alcohol is fairly well hidden. The label is pretty cool too. A good beer. Thanks Brandon.

Bottle shared at tasting by hopsleery. Thanks man! Pours a maroonsih brown color with a light beige head. Smell is smoky, roasty and a lot of nice maltiness. Taste is lightly roasty and mild with some smokiness and balancing hops. Perfect amount of sweetness. Light char flavor. Surprising and very good overall.

12 oz bottle. Dark brown with traces of beige foam. Nose is prunes, dark chocolate and light smoke. Almost full body with a spritzy tang. Taste is espresso, dried figs, chard and Baker’s chocolate. Has a rich feel but a bit raw.

VERY robust porter. Sort of a sour kind of palate. The alcohol is well hidden as said earlier but still a little too strong for me. A quality beer.

Pours a deep brown almost black with a medium creamy and bubbly deeper tan head that left spotty lacing. Aroma of chocolate, dark fruits, molasses, licorice, toffee, almonds and light vanilla. Flavor of roasted malt, dark bitter chocolate, surprising how bitter this is for 38 IBU’s. Also getting some nuts, toffee, molasses and peanuts. Alcohol fairly well hidden, a touch of vanilla and malty sweetness. Interesting peanut butter taste coming across as well.
