Pours a five-finger brown head that takes a while to fade leaving a good lace. Totally black color. Good carbonation and heavy bodied. Malty nose. Flavor is a smoky caramel and chocolate. Clean finish. One of Harpoon’s best offerings. $3.00 for a 750ml bottle from a Tully’s Beer & Wine Wells, ME.

12 ounce bottle, bottled on 11/13/2009. Served in a pint glass, the beer pours dark brown with an inch tan head. Head retention and lacing are both good. Aroma is caramel malt, chocolate, dark fruit and some coffee. The taste is similar to the aroma, but with the addition of some smoked malt. This is a very flavorful brew! Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s a bit coating and creamy with moderate carbonation. Drinkability is pretty good, it’s very smooth and great to drink. The alcohol isn’t very noticable at all which really makes this brew easy to drink. I think this is a good overall beer, I liked it a lot.

Black, tan creamy head. Burnt chocolate and figgy coffee-like aromas ride layers of golden raisin bread and black currant throughout. Flavor is well balanced with further black chocolate cocoa and mild espresso tones fading into a dark fruity finale. Full bodied and smooth, soft carbonation, bittersweet finish. Having trouble finding fault with this one. Well done and worthy of your attention…

Bottle shared at tasting by hopsleery. Thanks man! Pours a maroonsih brown color with a light beige head. Smell is smoky, roasty and a lot of nice maltiness. Taste is lightly roasty and mild with some smokiness and balancing hops. Perfect amount of sweetness. Light char flavor. Surprising and very good overall.

An almost black pour with very little head but a light off white lace. Aroma is light chocolate, burnt coffee, and a hint of peat. Flavor is more chocolate, with the burnt coffee. Nice medium full bodied beer with smooth creamy mouthfeel. Very nice. A just right warmth.

Pours a very deep dark chestnut brown with dark mahogany edges and a one finger light beige head that slowly fades into a lasting ring. Roasted malt aroma with lots of bitter dark chocolate, toffee, roasted coffee bean, oatmeal, burnt toast and slight dark fruit. There is also an earthy hoppy character in the nose. Softly carbonated deep roasty body with a somewhat viscous silky chocolate maltiness and a dry earthy hoppy finish. Very well balanced with the perfect amount of sweet chocolate maltiness countering the roasted coffee bean/burnt toast that’s prominent up front. Hints of caramel, toffee and dark fruit with a slight nut presence. Roasty and sweet with a subtle dry finish. Very good.

Originally reviewed: 5/30/09. Pours a deep dark cola color with about an inch’s worth of head on top. No retention at all, and very little lacing. Smells of roasted coffee, cocoa, nuts, and bread. Mouthfeel was crisp, yet creamy. This was very smooth. I dig it. Flavor was big time cocoa and coffee all melding and jiving together. Great roasty aftertaste. Finishes slightly bitter. Great Baltic Porter! I kept gulping and the ABV hit me a bit. Be careful. Recommend.
