3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
The aroma is caramel, toffee, fruit. The appearance is deep red/brown, translucent, off-white head. The flavor is caramel, fruit, floral hops. The finish is floral hops, light sweetness. Medium in body, very slightly thick, oily mouthfeel. The floral hops donít appear until the you taste the beer, but make their presence known thereafter. Pretty good overall.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz bottle. Pours a clear, dark amber/brown with rich beige head. Aroma of strong malt, notes of honey and strong fruity esters with a touch of alcohol spice. Flavor is very much the same and sweet with fussel notes, candy sugar, pepper and strong bitter finish. Mouth feel is heavy body with medium-high carbonation. Overall, not bad.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
OK but I was expecting more. A hoppy aroma with a lot of rubbing alcohol starts this out. Looks good enough, amber with a small head. The taste is a bit sweet but dominated by bitter hops and the alcohol is a little bit too evident.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
I tried this fresh and thought it was a bit hot so I held on to a couple of bottles to see how they developed. Pours a deep copper color with a decent off white head that shows moderate retention and lace. Smells of bready caramel and toffee with a bit of earth and alcohol. The flavor is sweet with bready caramel and toffee with a bit of ethanol to cut through the sweetness. Medium body with a light level of carbonation and a sweet sticky mouthfeel. After two years the alcohol is still a bit hot, but that is the only thing providing any balance against a really sweet syrupy maltiness. OK barleywine, definitely a sipper.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Samís Quik Shop in Durham. Pours a reddish amber with a thin beige head. Nose is malty--lots of caramel and toffee, but also some cherry skins and dark fruits, sort of like some American quads. Some hops. Interesting. Taste is a bit boozy.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a three fingered cream head that slowly fades to a thin layer, leaving a good lace. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied. Expecting a dark fruit nose but it is sweet malt. Color is crystal clear amber. Flavor is malty sweet with a good hop backbone. Some lingering hoppiness. High ABV is hidden. $3.00 for a 12oz bottle from Bertís Better Beers Hooksett, NH.
