3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
OK but I was expecting more. A hoppy aroma with a lot of rubbing alcohol starts this out. Looks good enough, amber with a small head. The taste is a bit sweet but dominated by bitter hops and the alcohol is a little bit too evident.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Sam’s Quik Shop in Durham. Pours a reddish amber with a thin beige head. Nose is malty--lots of caramel and toffee, but also some cherry skins and dark fruits, sort of like some American quads. Some hops. Interesting. Taste is a bit boozy.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Clear deep red pour with thick lacy white head. Aroma of burnt caramel, boozy fruity notes, barley syrup, candy, spicy hops and Madeira. Taste is rich and malty, caramel toffee, madeira, sweet up front with a long biting hop bitterness, warm alcohol finish. Palate is rich and boozy with light carbonation. Nothing extraordinary about this barleywine, but a very enjoyable fireplace beer.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a three fingered cream head that slowly fades to a thin layer, leaving a good lace. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied. Expecting a dark fruit nose but it is sweet malt. Color is crystal clear amber. Flavor is malty sweet with a good hop backbone. Some lingering hoppiness. High ABV is hidden. $3.00 for a 12oz bottle from Bert’s Better Beers Hooksett, NH.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Courtesy of Carl. Dark brown pour with a small head. Notes of caramel, biscuit, and slightly muted citrus and pine resin lead to a carmel oriented flavor. More biscuit with a grassy hop profile. The palate is a bit thin for the style, with low carbonation and a supple mouthfeel.
