COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The latest installment of the Harpoon Leviathan Series was brewed in the centuries-old tradition of Czech and Bohemian brewers. Harpoon Big Bohemian is a large lager with a clean maltiness and a huge aromatic hop character. Continental Pilsner, pale two-row, and Carafoam malt was used to brew this big, strong beer, true to the Leviathan Series. Pilsner malt is the classic ingredient of this classic style and the Carafoam malt produces a nice, frothy head. This malt mixture combined with Czech Saaz hops, the quintessential hop of the style, yields an assertive but not overly aggressive beer. The finish is dry with a lingering floral hop character.

Draft at Taco Mac. Pours cloudy amber brown with a thin white head. The aroma is pungent and awesome - loads and loads of caramel, malts, soft esters (hints of bubble gum). It has a tasty, deep malty flavor with a soft, spicy bitterness in the finish. Very full-bodied. Overall - surprisingly delicious.

Originally reviewed: 1/21/10. Poured into a pilsner glass. Pours a lightly-hazed gold with a massive foamy white head on top. Lots of bubbles rising up. Great retention. Leaves some sticky lace. Scents of lemon zest, fresh-cut grass, and a mild soap afterscent. The body is not as crisp as I would like. The alcohol level maybe smoothed this one more. For this style, I like a sharp crisp feel. Flavors of lemons, sourdough, and alcohol. The alcohol warms on the backend. Light resiny hops in there, but the bitterness is low in this beer. This was a pretty good beer, though Iím not so sure this is a style that needs to be "Imperial-ized."

12oz bottle. Pours clear yellow golden in color with white head. Aroma grainy, floral hops and bready. Taste fruity, hops and bready with bitter finish.

Draught > Gingerman. This didnít taste like a pils at all to me. Wasnít crisp or clean which is what I look for. Tasted more like a soapy pale ale. Not impressed. Was looking for something different. I guess I just donít get Harpoonís beers. Iíll try this again just to make sure though.

Pours a nice gold color with considerable white head and decent lacing. Smells refreshing, donít recall the details. Flavor is a nice mild blend of light malt and hops with a bit of honey. Alcohol content is covered amazingly well. Good beer, enjoyed very much. Has a nice slight bitterness in the finish that I like to see in lager beers.

Reviewed 8/16/2009 (Draft at Flying Saucer, Houston, TX): Pours a clear golden yellow color body with a smallish white head. Hoppy malty bitter citrus aroma. A little musty, not overly strong. A little fruity smelling. Bitter taste, drying, almost acidic. Strong taste, alcoholic. Almost a platricy taste. Very hoppy and bitter tasting.

Experienced at the brewery in a sample glass. The beer pours a slightly darker-than-regular-pilsner medium golden, no doubt as a result of the extra malt incorporated in its brewing. The first note that comes to the nose is one of fabric cleaning chemicals, like what you would get at the dry cleaner. This dominates all olfactory senses, and makes noticing hops or malt nearly impossible. The palate is a little more refined, but falls short of the malt and hop crispness that are a hallmark of great pilsners. Overall, a disappointment.

Draft @ Capones: Poured a hazy yellow with not much head. The aroma was spice, citrus, and hops. The flavor was the same with more lemon and spice. Overall, an easy drinker at 9%.

12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass. The beer pours a light slightly couldy yellow with a white head. Nice lacing on the glass and lively carbonation. The aroma is floral and spicy with definite sweet malt notes. Taste is more malty than expected, like a malty DIPA. Also get notes of the spicy hops in the finish. Overall, this is a good ImpPils, but a little too malty for my taste. I would rather have had more hops. ABV is not noted to be as high as listed, well hidden.

12 oz gift. Smells super funky like my hands after handling my uncleís coin collection. Boozy, malty, and fairly complex. More like a strong ale than a pilsener, but that works for me. Leviathan lives!
