COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The latest installment of the Harpoon Leviathan Series was brewed in the centuries-old tradition of Czech and Bohemian brewers. Harpoon Big Bohemian is a large lager with a clean maltiness and a huge aromatic hop character. Continental Pilsner, pale two-row, and Carafoam malt was used to brew this big, strong beer, true to the Leviathan Series. Pilsner malt is the classic ingredient of this classic style and the Carafoam malt produces a nice, frothy head. This malt mixture combined with Czech Saaz hops, the quintessential hop of the style, yields an assertive but not overly aggressive beer. The finish is dry with a lingering floral hop character.

Interesting to see this style done as a big beer. Golden color with hearty head. The aroma as hop spice with some tropical fruit and cherries. Taste was an agressive bitter that caries out as well as some pungent skunk. light inb ody but not watery.

hazy orange straw with thick frothy offwhite head and quality lacing. sweet toasty aroma, very yeast-y and bready, with crisp bittersweetness and an alcohol tinge. deep fruity flavors combined with more classic crisp hoppyness. sweet with a very dry finish. medium body and high carbonation, alcohol is barely present but there’s a slightly odd aftertaste of vegetables and toothpaste.

UPDATED: AUG 15, 2009 Alcohol not too well hidden. A lot of straw, some floral to grassy hops throughout. Bready with a sweet maltness. Apple juice color with a thin film head. Minimal lacing. If your looking to get drunk, and in the mood for a pils, this is right up your alley..

Large near-white head. Recedes to a dome. Straw to gold color with a hint of green. It comes with a very faint haze. Spotty lace. Crisp golden malt aroma with a generous dash of floral hop at the end. Very appealing. The flavor is extremely hoppy. I can’t detect the malt up front, but I do sense the alcohol level. Quite unbalanced. Aftertaste is bitter and lasts for over a minute. The body is appropriate if a little oily. This is a case of a beer made too extreme for my liking. I’ve had other "big" pilsners, but none of them had the overpowering bitterness that this one has. It’s worthwhile to try if only for something that is rare.

12oz. bottle from VBM. Pours a slightly hazy body with a thin white head. Aroma is strong lemony citrus, honey with malts floral notes and alcohol. Flavor is crisp spicy, hoppy. Medium bodied tangy tongue tingling mouthfeel. Alcohol is hidden pretty well. Overall a well put together beer. Nothing too exciting.

Bottle from jessup plaza. poured a pale yellow color with lots of bubbles and a nice sized white head. nice mild hop aroma up front. Well the booze is def not covered well on this one. It hits right away and then mellows out to a well balanced malt and hop flavor with some citrus at the end. Very strong alcohol. Weird mouthfeel until the end. Not great but not terrible.

Pours a cloudy, light yellow, looks appealing with a thin white head and adequate lacing. Aroma is refreshing with just enough hop undertones to excite you. Flavor is not entirely complex, but is very good for what it is going after. If this was not 9%, you could drink them all day...

12oz bottle, light golden pour with a decent white head. No hops left in the flavor at all, but also not much of the 9% in this one either. Was a let down, but I would have liked to try this one fresh.

pours bright amber with large white head lingering. aroma is bursting with bitter pine hops and alcohol. toasted malt and some citrus is also there. drinks with a nice balance of bitter hops and sweet malts throughout but has a bit of bitter citrus on the front and a mild roast finish. alcohol is noticeable but not overwhelming. pretty tasty stuff.

i was disappointed with this brew - compared to sam adam’s or rogue’s imperial pilsner, this is a distant third. unpleasantly sweet and cloying - the hops i was expecting to be big were almost nonexistent.. I also agree with the comment made below that the more you drink, the more prominent the alcohol becomes, and the hops are still nowhere to be found. I followed this beer up with a Stoudts Pils, a much cleaner, drier hoppier and refreshing pils.
