The latest installment of the Harpoon Leviathan Series was brewed in the centuries-old tradition of Czech and Bohemian brewers. Harpoon Big Bohemian is a large lager with a clean maltiness and a huge aromatic hop character. Continental Pilsner, pale two-row, and Carafoam malt was used to brew this big, strong beer, true to the Leviathan Series. Pilsner malt is the classic ingredient of this classic style and the Carafoam malt produces a nice, frothy head. This malt mixture combined with Czech Saaz hops, the quintessential hop of the style, yields an assertive but not overly aggressive beer. The finish is dry with a lingering floral hop character.

i was disappointed with this brew - compared to sam adam’s or rogue’s imperial pilsner, this is a distant third. unpleasantly sweet and cloying - the hops i was expecting to be big were almost nonexistent.. I also agree with the comment made below that the more you drink, the more prominent the alcohol becomes, and the hops are still nowhere to be found. I followed this beer up with a Stoudts Pils, a much cleaner, drier hoppier and refreshing pils.

This dark golden pilsner has a big taste to it that defies one’s expectations of the style. It has more body and the stringent hops elements are also fruit toned. The after taste flexes between being smooth with elements of dry grains and being bitter with interesting colors. The beer was more complex than I expected, but it was good to taste.

12oz brown-glass pry-top. Date stamped "128." Appearance: Poured into a Modelo Pilsner glass, huge white, bubbly head fades quickly without any lacing. Crystal clear, straw with hints of amber. Nose: Smells like sweet pilsner...Not a lot of hops apparent, but some floral notes. Palate: Round and sweet up front, medium bodied in the midpalate, and then BAM! there’s the hops. Thin malt-flavor profile is crashed over by the wave of hops which are bitter and fruity. Reminds me a little of a fruit-flavored cereal (fruit plus grain). Bitterness lingers and is a little stinging on the finish. Great big body for a pilsner. Notes: Not a bad attempt, really. Got some umph in the back-end. Would recommend for a badass hot weather guzzler.

12oz bottle: pours pale yellow with thick white head. Hoppy citrus aroma. Flavor is sweet, hoppy, mild bitterness. Has an alcohol bite larger than a typical pilsner, but well balanced.

Pours a clear golden with a persistent thin head. Aroma is of floral and citrus hops with some sweetness. Taste is a quick hit of floral hops that descend into malt sweetness and alcohol. A good quality beer that is definitely best served ice cold.

yellow gold clear pour, fizzy head. Very malty pilsner, lots of caramel banana notes, a little herbal and citrus but balanced. Thought it was a little flat at first but flavor is just as complex, lots of sweet sugar at the front, and dry citrus earthy notes at the finish. I like the description the mouth feel as a juice, almost appley, but lots of bubbles. Pretty nice pils

Aroma is of malt and earthy Saaz hop. Slight haze to this beer, taste is sweet malt followed by a slight hop bitterness. Medium body. Overall an ok beer.
