Pours black into a snifter. Mocha conglomerate head froths and recedes leaving spider lacing. Dark chocolate and pit fruit aromas. Thin with smoky chocolate upfront turning to caramel and pit fruit before the lasting hot espresso finish.

Bottle from sam's i think. Dark brown/black with a sudsy tan head. Nice, understated nose, dry roast, bakers chocolate, light molasses, smells less like a imperial stout and more like a dry/semi-sweet stout. Flavor is similar, dark fruit, molasses, and bakers cocoa dominate. Alcohol super well hidden. Having this blind I would guess I couldn't be higher than 6% abv. A solid stout that ill give extra points for drinkability considering its high gravity.

On tap at House of 1000. Smoky with coffee, soy sauce, molasses, and chocolate. Light alcohol sweetness. Mild vanilla. Dark black opaque with thin cocoa head. Medium chewy body with medium carbonation. Starts rich and malty with chocolate and molasses, coffee, and a bit of smoke. Mild alcohol warming. Big chocolate-molasses finish with nutty sweet and bitter after.

This poured a darker brown color with a lighter tan head. Aroma was of licorice, smoke, and dark burnt chocolate. Flavor was much the same, nicely smokey and a bit ashey, but not too offensive. Alcohol is hidden well too. Nice offering by Harpoon.

4.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 Cybercat (2454) - Georgia, USA - APR 5, 2013
Comes out of the tap a rich, dark coffee brown with a fine-bubbled tan head that leaves generous lacing. Hearty aroma has strong chocolate, caramel and roast malt notes plus hints of caramel and fruit. Robust flavor has a core of roast malt and coffee, chocolate, earthy, woody hop and caramel notes of varying strength. Each sip seems just a little different. It is slightly sweet, but not too much. Texture seems just a teensy thin for an Imperial Stout, but otherwise quite firm and fizzy. Darkness visible, and very tasty!
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 kidmartinek (2453) - austin, Texas, USA - FEB 6, 2013
Alright. Almost a black beer. The head.... oily tan. The aroma... roasted malt and oily alchy. Rich, chocolately and alcoholic taste. Right on par for harpoon. Its not disagreeable, which is better than I can say for most of their beers, but its not great either and being an imperial isn’t helping the cause in its own right. Maybe its the water supply or a "mediocre beer" allergy. At any rate, drink this and be moderately satisfied and completely full. The disappearing head act and no lace left behind only hurt the cause further.

Bottle from Sam’s Quik Shop. Pours black with a thin tan head. Nose of roast, chocolate, molasses and some fruit, but the fruit fullness really comes out on the taste, with notes of raisin, prune, and fig. Some creamy action in there as well. Sweet, with a hint of light tartness. Tastes great.

Bottle. Pours a thick and very black color with almost no head. Nose is just a little sweet and fruity, which I found surprising. Taste is just a tad sour, with some roasting underneath. Not my favorite of the style.

Deep brown in color with an off white head that settles off completely. Aroma is sweet with chocolatey, molasses notes. Tastes sweet and smooth, much like a milk stout, though more intense with the chocolate flavors. A bit warming.
