Named after the ancient god of darkness, Leviathan Czernobog is a tribute to the hardy stouts originally brewed in England for shipment to the frigid Baltic. With notes of unsweetened chocolate, molasses, and dark fruit, this Russian Imperial Stout will withstand the darked of winters.

Deep brown in color with an off white head that settles off completely. Aroma is sweet with chocolatey, molasses notes. Tastes sweet and smooth, much like a milk stout, though more intense with the chocolate flavors. A bit warming.

Quite black pour with very little brown head. Aroma is mostly roast malt with a faint smokiness. Flavors are of cocoa with a mild sweetness, very roasty, and slight hint of ripe fruit. Very balanced and clean finish make this super drinkable for the style. Alcohol is well-hidden.

Draught @ Draught 55. Inky dark brown with small tan foamy head, mocha aroma, medium carbonation, bitterish mocha taste with alcohol undertones, medium bitter finish. Well masked alcohol content.

Bottled. Very dark with a thin tan head. Comes on very full. Roasty malt, cocoa, cherry, raisin. A bit of toast and a slight tartness. Not creamy, but some thickness to it.

Sample glass at Two Brothers Tavern, Middlebury, VT. This was poured into one of those pilsener looking sample glasses (yes, so take with grain of salt to an extent), here’s the rest. The appearance was a black color with a thin glaze of a cap of a tan head. Quickly dissipated, no lacing. The smell had a good amount of milk chocolate, dark chocolate, black licorice, roasty coffee beans, and a delicate amount of dark fruits. The taste was mainly sweet through the previously mentioned flavors. Roasty tones make a decent effort and slide through the dark fruits to blend into the aftertaste, decent. Semi-sticky fruity to licorice finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a decent sessionability about it. Weird that a 10%-er has a slightly crushable feel to it and its on tap, hmm...leaves me wondering. Overall, well, its not a bad RIS, just comes across a bit lighter than expected. Good aroma and flavor, could come back to it for that.

650ml into a snifter. Pours an opaque mocha-black with a sparse white head. Nose of dark fruit, chocolate, a bit of coffee. Slight sweetness, with a definite warming note. (Perhaps the end of August is the wrong time?) Light carbonation, but thick and viscous on the palate. Unsurprisingly, boozy. Should have saved it until December or January.

Bomber from State Line. Near black, thin creamy tan head. Fair retention. Aroma of chocolate, cocoa, vanilla, hints of leather. The taste is cocoa, dark fruits, vanilla, mild roast and green hops. Thin-medium bodied. Solid.

Bomber from Joe Canals Fire Rd. Poured a sort of unimpressive super dark brown with a foamy mocha head. Aroma of sweet chocolate, dark fruits, nuts, marshmallows, amd dark cherry juice. Smooth body, with softer carbonation, decent heat. Flavor is similar to the aroma, dry dark chocolate, cbocolate syrup, burnt malts, burnt toast, ash dark fruits. Solid beer but sort of sweet for an Impy.

12 oz bottle from Triangle Wine for 3 bucks. Dated 2012. Pours black with a small brown head. Aroma is fruit, sweet chocolate, some coffee. Taste is fruit and chocolate up front as well with a lasting chocolate flavor on the back end. Some coffee in there as well. Texture is slightly thick, not quite on par with some of my favorites though. Easy to drink, not much alcohol burn to it. Overall a decent imperial stout.

On tap at R.D.F. in Washington, DC. Opaque, near black with a dark tan head and excellent fine lacing. Aroma of booze, dark malt, chocolate, molasses and licorice. Taste of licorice, roasted malt, chocolate, booze and oak. This is an excellent, complex, dark roasty beer--until it warms. Then the boozy flavor takes over and dominates the other flavored and complexity. Enjoy while it still has a chill. Full/medium body and medium/low carbonization. A potentially great RIS that disappoints once it warms. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap from the brewery. Chocolate, roasted malts, with a hint of bitter hops. Harpoon did a very nice job with this.
