Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark reddish caramel color with a medium sized foamy-soapy beige head that faded and left no lacing. The aroma was malty sweet toffee with touches of wood and smoke. The flavor was malty, toasty and sweetish with moderate caramel and touches of smoke and honey. Medium length finish of toasty malts and caramel. Medium body. Solid.

Very earthy flavor, definitely a good example of a heavy duty Scotch Ale. Take this one really slow.

Bottle. Orange pour with a small, short-lived beige head. Peaty, malty aroma, with dried fruit and ash. Flavor is peaty, lightly smoky, and malty, with some light hops. Pretty good. [1110]

pours caramel brown with small white head. nose is sweet toffee, butterscotch, and caramel, taste is fairly sweet caramel malt with maybe a bit of earthiness, but overall it’s not terribly complex. alcohol is definitely there, and i noticed a bit of a lingering burn in the finish as well, reminiscent of drinking scotch.

Bouteille de 12 oz achetée chez Beverage Warehouse (Winooski, VT). Arôme: Forte odeur de caramel avec une pointe d’alcool. Apparence: La couleur est ambrée-cuivrée avec une moyenne densité de bulle. Présence d’un moyen col mousseux et d’une fine dentelle sur le verre. Saveur: Goût de caramel sucré avec une pointe d’alcool. Longue durée de l’arrière goût. Pours Copper color with thin white head. Caramel aroma with alcohol. Sweet caramel taste with dark dried fruits flavors slight smokiness. Some alcohol in finish but the 10.2 is nicely masked.

Appearance: Clear mahogany brown body, almost no head.
Aroma: Very sweet of toffee and caramel.
Taste: Very sweet toffee and caramel, near cloying.
Palate: Thick with light carbonation.
Overall: This is good, but too sweet to thoroughly enjoy.

12oz bottle pours a copper color with whitish head that does leave some decent lacing. He aroma and flavors are of malt, lots of malt deep and rich and almost a sweetness to it. No hop action just malts I like this beer.

12oz bottle. Poured an amber color with an off white head. Aromas of earth, peat, leaves, caramel, and some dark fruits. Tastes of caramel, smoke (some smoked meats), earth, and peat. Sweet with the alcohol content well hidden.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle served about 40 degrees. The pour is a deep copper-amber with a modest head that fizzles quickly. The aroma is vibrant with sweet and caramel malts, a slight booziness, but no smokiness as promised. The body is medium to bold. The taste is sweet with a slight bitterness at the end that does not linger much. Overall a pretty good take on the style.
