COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Formerly known as Harpoon Leviathan Imperial IPA.

We welcomed the challenge of brewing a 90 IBU Imperial IPA that would showcase glorious American hops while maintaining a multi-dimensional character. Bring on the hops!

Description
This Imperial IPA is brewed with loads of pale malt and just enough caramel malt to provide a sweet malt backbone to balance the hop intensity. We used a mix of our favorite American hops including Chinook, Centennial, Simcoe, and Amarillo to create a complex hop flavor and lingering bitterness. Harpoon’s proprietary yeast lends fruity esters, while dry-hopping at the rate of over one pound per barrel produces this beer’s massive aroma.

Bottle to pint glass. Dark amber with towering broken head. Aromas of grapefruit hops and caramel. Rich buttery mouthfeel. Sweet and boozy; from the first sip it's obvious that this is a 'big beer.' Flavours of caramel, peachy and grapefruit dominate. Sugary residue in bottom of the glass, but quite a smooth one. Nice, if one is in the mood.

Poured from bottle into pint glass: Pours clear golden-amber with a thin white head. Aroma of caramel, floral hops, malt sweetness. Taste is very sweet, lots of bitter hops kicking in at the end, slight citrus taste, lots of floral. Medium to heavy body, a bit cloying, overly sweet, decent carbonation. Either this is an old bottle or its a super-sweet IPA. Not my favorite, I’ll stick with Rich and Dan’s.

From bottle. Pours a nearly clear dark honey color with a white head and a good amount of lacing. Aroma is mango and tropical fruits, with pine and citrus and floral hop qualities as well. The flavor is rather sweet, very malty, similar to the aroma. Aftertaste leaves a pleasant bitterness.

Bottle pour medium dark gold with thin white head. Nose almost bubblegum sweet malt , fruity hop, and slight floral. Tatse similar to nose, sweet up front. Mild alcohol late palate leading to long lasting bitter finish.

Reviewed from notes. The appearance was a golden hazy orange colored body that leaves a one finger white foamy head settling to a lumpy bubbly film and leaves some nice lacing. No carbonation is seen rising. The smell had a separated fruity/maltiness from the hops, both are there, but mostly distinct at different times. The taste was way more combined between the flavors. The palate was a bit sharp and about a medium, sessionable, uh maybe perhaps. Overall, I actually thought this was going to be pretty good but sadly I had an old bottle that could have been the cause of being a mediocre beer.
