COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Formerly known as Harpoon Leviathan Imperial IPA.

We welcomed the challenge of brewing a 90 IBU Imperial IPA that would showcase glorious American hops while maintaining a multi-dimensional character. Bring on the hops!

Description
This Imperial IPA is brewed with loads of pale malt and just enough caramel malt to provide a sweet malt backbone to balance the hop intensity. We used a mix of our favorite American hops including Chinook, Centennial, Simcoe, and Amarillo to create a complex hop flavor and lingering bitterness. Harpoon’s proprietary yeast lends fruity esters, while dry-hopping at the rate of over one pound per barrel produces this beer’s massive aroma.

From bottle. Pours bright orange in color with decent white head. A little lacing as it goes down. Aroma was all grapefruit. Taste added bready malt, a little pine and clean crispy bitter bite. Medium to light mouth feel. Very drinkable as the ABV does not show up.

Bottle. Pours a nice golden orange color with a small head that quickly fades. Aroma is packed with citrus, pine, and floral hops. A hint of malt comes through too. Taste has a very slightly sweetness at first and turns extremely bitter by the finish. Lots of citrus and floral hops throughout and there’s just enough malt to give a bit of a backbone. Finish is long, very bitter and floral. This is a solid Imperial IPA but it’s not very memorable.

Some floral notes in the aroma, some burn behind that. A bit stale palate, with hops but also slightly alcaholic finish. Was expecting more

Nice bright orange translucent color with very small white head and messy lacing. Aroma is huge- could smell it right after opening and as the glass sits there too. Flavor has a sweet fruity, citric, piney punch up front and finishes a bit bitter. Nicely blended and can hardly taste the alcohol. Very good overall.

UPDATED: DEC 30, 2013 Bottle from Lizardville Rocky River. Clear light orange pour with a spotty white head. Lots of citrus and pine resin hops - both aroma and taste. Hop assertive but pretty well balanced. Solid brew.

Good appearance and aroma, but spices are unbalanced and give this IPA an overly bitter after flavor.

On tap at the Nocturnem Draft Haus. Pours black with little head. For starters I’m not a fan of the style thus the low rating. I’m sure its well built for the style with the increasing arms race for who can brew the most hop resiny beer. There was a lot of heat with the high alcohol but no other flavor than the hop bitterness which does not allow your taste buds to taste anything else for about 30 minutes.

12oz bottle - pours orange with ivory head and fantastic lacing. Nose is grapefruit and overall citrus. Flavor adds caramel and floral hops. quite bitter with some sweetness to help balance. medium body. warms the body quickly (aka alcohol burn). dry finish. dangerously easy to drink for a 10% ABV beer. nothing extra for this IIPA.
