COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Imperial IPA is loaded with big, juicy American hop character and balanced by a strong, malty backbone. A massive hop profile dominates.

A very fresh and robust experience, as should be the case for a quality Imperial IPA. Hops are clearly multi-layered both in the mouth and in the nose; ends with a heavy and lush floral explosion. I have my serious doubts that this is 10%. I thought it was remarkably smooth for a 10 percenter, and I drank my entire 4-pack with barely a buzz. I would say this is closer to 8 or 8.5%.

UPDATED: FEB 12, 2009 12oz bottle thanks to eepiest......pours a vivid orange brown and a thin frothy off-white head.... aroma of citrusy hops and a considerable malt backbone. somewhat syrupy flavors had a sharp citrusy and pine resin bite to it and a lot less malt than what the aroma had initially implied. fair amount of bitterness. fair mouthfeel. 7/4/7/4/14

Pours a nice deep golden orange with a creamy two finger thick head. The nose is very nice, with full hop profile and nice caramel malt influence. The flavor was good, but not as good as the nose, with an earthy finish.

11/5/08 notes: on tap, Eli Cannon’s. Pours gold, with a medium-sized head. Aroma dominated by sharp, grassy-floral hops. Surprisingly bold for a Harpoon brew! Palate is crisp, and finish is predictably long given the alcohol and mouth-coating hop-juice. I generally enjoyed Leviathan, being a hophead, by inevitably I found myself docking points from it because of another “similar” brew I had just prior: Great Divide’s Fresh Hop. Compared to the latter, Leviathan lacked balance, as I thought the its hoppy profile too nearly became a one-sided assault. Nevertheless, I now can mark Harpoon as yet another brewery that has successfully created a quality Impy IPA.

Draft @ tiedhouse. Golden color with a big sweet hop aroma with citrus, melons, and floral notes. Flavor is big, hoppy and sugary - lots of citrus, cantaloupe, pine....malt balance is nice as well. Solid mouthfeel - easily the best Harpoon I’ve had

Pours gold with a nice whote head. Smells of citrus and dry malt. Tastes astringent and citrussy with a peppery finish.

(Bottle). Citrus hops aroma. Clear orange body, smallish off-white head. Taste is fresh grapefruit and tangerine, with a nice bite. Alcohol is a bit intrusive. The finish is peculiar....not quite bitter, more like spicy and bittersweet. Overall, good but not great.

Big beer. Alcohol relatively well hidden. Definitely a pleasant surprise from Harpoon. Extremely hoppy. Nose full of grapefruit hops. Flavor much of the same, very bitter though, not as crisp as I wanted. Good, but not great.

Bottle thanks to jjpm74. Pours a copper color with shiet head. Nose of pine, citurs and sweet malt. Flavor has a good hit of hops up front with a good chunch of sweet malt that follows. Body is thick with syrup and high alcohol that warms the body.

Tap at Barcade. Deep golden amber beer with a thin white head. Aroma is quite fruity and hoppy. Lots of bright pine and soft grapefruity citrus. Flavour is soft and quite hoppy. The hoppiness is quite nice and shows good flavour. Fairly sweet palate with a lot of fruity hoppiness. It’s big and boozy and while it’s got some nice components, it’s just a bit too sweet for me.
