Formerly known as Harpoon Leviathan Imperial IPA.

We welcomed the challenge of brewing a 90 IBU Imperial IPA that would showcase glorious American hops while maintaining a multi-dimensional character. Bring on the hops!

This Imperial IPA is brewed with loads of pale malt and just enough caramel malt to provide a sweet malt backbone to balance the hop intensity. We used a mix of our favorite American hops including Chinook, Centennial, Simcoe, and Amarillo to create a complex hop flavor and lingering bitterness. Harpoon’s proprietary yeast lends fruity esters, while dry-hopping at the rate of over one pound per barrel produces this beer’s massive aroma.

Bottle says best by 10-15-12 so I’m a bit late on this guy. Malty and a bit spicy aroma. Fruity, lightly mango and some peach. Perfect look for style, hazy amber gold. Good lacing on a pillowy beige head that settles. For such an enormous beer this is ver y drinkable, bitterness is there throughout, but it displays slight pine amongst juicy apricot and peach. Great imperial iPa. Big and juicy.

Hops! Lots of great hop bittering, though you don't get as much aroma as you might think. Pours a great clear amber, light head. A nice touch of dryness on the finish ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12oz bottle purchased at Beverage World in Ft. Oglethorp Georgia. Clear orange color, good head, sticky lace. Smells a lot less hoppy than I would prefer and the taste soon follows suit. This is a very "balanced" IPA but that is not why I buy double IPA’s. I don;t want nor need balance, I need hops that will rip my face off. Still, this was not bad at all and the alcohol was well integrated so I had no problem finishing this myself. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 10-10-2010 20:38:46

Tried this in the bottle at the Flying Saucer in Addison, TX. Slightly sweet malty start with a huge hoppy punch in the taste bud finish! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours a light copper color with a white head that quickly dissipates. Aroma is grapefruit and tropical fruits. Flavor is grapefruit, mango, tropical fruits with a caramel cake malt finish. Light carbonation with a little sweetness on the mouthfeel with bitterness coming in from the hops. The bitterness does not linger.

Bottle. Pours a clear and darker golden color with a really thick white head. Nice bit of hoppiness to the nose of this, while the taste has a bit of that hoppy bitterness. Not a bad drink, but not great.

Pours clear orange gold with thin lacing. Pine and resin on the nose. Huge palate-resious and silky with huge hops and pine/resin flavors.

this beer blew me away. doesn’t look like much (and is quite pricey), but the aroma grabbed me by the leg and pulled me to my watery grave.

Nice amber color; Medium creamy body; Aroma of citrus hops, floral, & some caramel malt; Flavor of sweet malt, caramel/toffee, pine hops, peach/mango, and citrus (notably orange); Finish is slightly bitter; The alcohol is fairly well hidden; Nicely balanced; Overall, pleasantly surprised - pretty decent.
