Served in a wine glass at Austin Flying Saucer. One finger off-white head over golden body. Hops dominate smell and taste with a hint of grapefruit up front. Very highly carbonated. The high alcohol is masked well. Fantastic IPA!

The beautiful cascading pour was followed by a typical DIPA look with a pale and hazy body and a one finger thick foamy head. The smell of hops was prominent, but not overwhelming. Mostly grapefruit pith in the smell. The taste was strongly hopped, with the citrus taste dominant. The body was thick and sticky, and the finish very dry and spicy. Very easy to drink for a beer of this heft. Well done Harpoon.

Bottle says enjoy by 02/15/12. So maybe not really new, but still in good standing freshness-wise. An eloquent dark-orange, light-amber with shiny ruby redness in between splash the snifter glass, with a moderate one-finger white lacing, that dissipates rather quickly. Decent foamy and bubbly but rather thin lacing retain to the glass. A bigger and longer-lasting head would be welcome. Right upon pouring, my nose can automatically detect piney and citrusy hops, and all the wonderful grapefruit resulting aromas and flavors. Also a good deal of malt sweetness is very present here, giving some pretty high hopes for this. These aromas are very pleasant and inviting, and instantly noticeable. Mouth gets filled with a medium body full of pleasant citrusy and lemony hops, followed by a surprising strong malt backbone. The hops are very citrus, grapefruit and lemon-like, they make their presence known very effectively. There is a solid English malt/barley background, bringing out flavors of toffee, English sweets and maybe some caramel. It kind of reminds me of what Samuel Adams Boston Lager used to taste like, years ago, in terms of malt. Very classic English or New England toffee-like malt sweetness, which I haven’t tasted in a long time. Carbonation is quite minimal, which is another very nice surprise. Less carbonation is always a plus in my book. Gives more room for the flavors and complexity. Very good body overall. Very smooth for a Double/Imperial IPA, very hoppy all the while restraining the bitterness. Well-balanced with a solid malt sweetness, and a complexity usually not available in a lot of other IPAs, double/imperial or not. Highly recommended. Hopheads like me will be satisfied, while others should find this one tasty and fun as well.

Pours a deep orange with a moderate off-white head. Aroma is huge with a lot of citrus and pine. Flavor is super smooth with lots of juicy hops, citurs, and a very fine bitter finish. This is a very fine beer.

Brought back from my recent trip home to New England - this Imperial IPA pours a cloudy orange color with a thick white head. Piney aroma with some citrus, hops and malt. Taste of hops, apricot, pine and honey - great, great IPA. Moderate carbonation that provided the perfect mouthfeel on this one... My only regret is I have not seen this brew in NC yet - so when the 4 pack is gone, it is gone. BUMMER - this is a beer I could drink all summer.
