Leviathan Uber-Bock takes the Geman Bock tradition to its limits; a deep copper color, mighty backbone, heroic malty character. Uber-delicious

12oz bottle from Sam’s, Durham. If there’s one thing that to my tastebuds seems to characterize all the Leviathan brews it’s an excess sweetness. With a doppelbock, it’s something that could conceivably work. Nice burnt orange pour with a medium creamy head. Full nose of thick, sweet malts with a hint of fruit and smoke. Mouthfeel is a bit slick and sticky. And the taste is a bit too heavy-handed and caramelly.

12oz bottle. Clear brown pour with very little head. Nose is oddly buttery with caramel malt and tons of alcoholic heat. Way too sweet and alcoholic - tastes like 13 or 14%, not 9. Yuck.

12oz bottle: Pours a clear deep copper bronze with a stringy-lacing off-white head. Has a sweet light caramel malty nose with a touch of light fruits. Starts with pretty good fullness and fine carbonation with a chewy light caramel sweetness, some strawberry notes and a touch of mild citric tartness toward the finish. Could use a little more dark malty character and less tartness, but a decent attempt at the style.

Bottle shared at the 6th annual Richmond Industry Gathering, 11/27/11. Pours a clear amber color with a thin creamy offwhite head. Decent head retention. Aroma of toasted malts, caramel and herbal hops. The taste is caramel, toasted malts, herbal hops and a bit of chocolate. Medium bodied. Interesting.

Any beer that starts with the word uber makes me happy. Not only does hte word indicate extraordinary contents, but the umlaut is an exotic creation. Furthermore the label is pretty amazing looking. Beyond looks, the beer itself is pretty good. It smells mild, but has a bit of a bite to it. I like that- the high ABV is more represented by a bite as opposed to simply being sweeter. You can’t drink it too fast though! Its best to sip slowly. I’d drink this again.

Poured a light honey color with an off-white had from a bottle with a scary fish on it. Aroma is malty with some syrup and some caramel. Taste is malty and the alcohol is well hidden. A good balance between the syrupy malts and the hops. Some honey as well. Pretty malty overall, but nothing stands out about it.

(12oz bottle thanks to Dixonian) bright clear gold-orange with a ring of fine white bubbles. Nose of raisin, alcohol, earth, and roots. Taste of raisin, alcohol, burnt and toasty, not great.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Buy Rite - Jersey City, 10/2/11

Aroma: The nose has toffee notes, some dark fruits, toasted grains, and a little honey
Appearance: It pours a clearish red-orange color with a small head that leaves no lacing
Flavor: The taste is medium (plus) sweet, toffee and honey, with minimal bitterness present
Palate: The body is fairly light, the carbonation is average (leaning soft), and it has just a touch of boozy heat
Overall Impression: I’ve generally enjoyed most of the Leviathan Series beers that I have had a chance to try, and while I thought this one was decent, it isn’t quite up to my standards for this series. Still though, it is a decent offering.

Clear amber pour with no real head. Malty caramel nose. Deeply biscuit and toffee bitter malt flavor. Slight dogfood tinge. Earthy. Pretty good for the style I suppose, but I don’t really care for this maltbomb.
