Midsummer Fling features a bright golden color, light mouthfeel, and citrusy aromas and flavors derived from the combination of Citra hops, elderflower, and lemongrass. The use of an old Scottish malt called Golden Promise helps produce a clean base that allows those herbal notes to shine, and, at 4.7% ABV, it is truly a beer brewed for summer sessions.

Served at the Harpoon Brewery. Modest bar-pour head but it has some retention. No lace. Crystal clear. Dark gold/light amber color. Strong perfume aroma--a bit sweet and a bit flowery. A little odd for the style but only mildly detracting. Semisweet with some lemon on the tongue. Reminds me of a Shanty. There’s a lack of bitterness at the end of the taste, so this seems close to a SweetTart sort of a beer. It’s not bad per se, but I would really need to be at a hot backyard barbeque to want to have another. Good body and carbonation.

UPDATED: SEP 18, 2015 A Harpoon special release I’d love to see go mainstream. This borders on a Shandy with pronounced lemon notes in both the aroma and flavor. Hugely refreshing and drinkable. Originally released a year before the current Shandy craze started, it may be part of the reason so many breweries made their own.

Pours a hazy yellow. Aroma of honey and flowers. Perfume-like. Taste is light and lemony with a honey floral taste and slightly bitter aftertaste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured as part of a flight. Pours a light gold, low head, minimal lacing. Grassy nose, malt and a hint of cardamom/citrus on the palate, medium finish. This was pretty refreshing.

Nice floral bouquet. I.e. tons of jasmine in the nose. Nice balance considering. Just shy of sessionable.
