12oz bottle purchased as part of a mixed 12 pack at Market Basket. Pours a translucent dark brown with a good half inch of light tan head. Smells sweet, with chocolate and caramel malt character with banana and nut playing roles. Nut, chocolate, coffee comprise most of the flavor, hints at peatiness? Chocolate dominates the finish and aftertaste. Medium-bodied with moderate carbonation. Full-flavored with no real perceivable flaws. A solid brown ale, and another slam dunk for Harpoon!
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Acetobacter (816) - Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 26, 2009
Enjoyed via draft at the brewery. The beer pours the characteristic dark brown to nearly black. Aromas of toasted malt come through in the nose, along with a touch of maltiness from what is perhaps Munich malt. However, a touch more would do the beer well. The palate is crisp, light, and rather refreshing, blending toaty malts, relatively light carbonation, and a neutral finish. Overall, a very well done dunkel.

Pours brown with a fizzy soda-like thin head that fades leaving trails. Caramel malt aroma with roast and some nuttiness. Smooth creamy texture with a caramel taste and good hop balance as well. Overall a bit sweet and sticky.

Draft at the brewery tour. Poured a clear dark brown color. The head was tan with an orange tint and left some lace behind on the glass. Not much in the way of aroma other than a light nutty note. Medium bodied and dry-ish up front. some delicate sweetness emerged at the end. Not as sweet as the Harpoon Brown Ale. Nutty with hints of roast and chocolate. Decent.

12oz. Pour is deep brown with small off white head. Aromas of roasted malts, smoke, wood, and slight earthy hops. Flavor is earthy hops, smoke, and finishing somewhat dry. Nice hop presence throughout. I’m liking this one.

Dark pour with tan head. Aroma of some nuts and raisins, similar to a brown ale. Flavor was very limited, slight taste of metallic which hurts score.
