3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 beerbill (2850) - Laurel, New York, USA - APR 19, 2008
12 oz. bottle. Pours a dark brown with some faint reddish brown highlights when held against light. Moderate off-white head that disappeared after the first two sips. Pleasant but very light aroma of coffee and malt. The flavor is unfortunately equally light with some short-lived malt and a bit of lingering hops bitterness. Not a bad beer, but a very dull and frankly uninteresting one.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Tweety (377) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - APR 19, 2008
Tap at the Middle East Club. A classic German Dunkel, pours a dark brown. A touch of sweetness in the flavor, transitioning into a dryer finish. Very enjoyable. About as close as you can get to a true Munich dunkel in the US.

Bottle. Pours a dark cola like color. Little to no head almost looks like flat Coke. Aromas of coffee, burnt malts some chocolate. Light bodied some minor dunkel flavor. sort of bland.

Bottle from Beer Club: Poured a dark brown color with not a lot of head. The aroma was a malty burnt coffee. The flavor was slightly hoppy with roasted malts and a slight mocha finish. Overall, this beer was just alright.

The only reason I purchased this beer is for the review. Very dark brown, not quite black color. Small thin head, with a faint coffee, malt aroma. I’m used to beers like this being a bit more presentable (that’s the only quality some of them have in my opinion). Not a bad mouthfeel, relatively smooth and doesn’t have that flat bitter taste I thought it might have. Wasn’t all that flavorful though, a little weak
3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20 RPillsbury (114) - Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, ENGLAND - APR 11, 2008
Draught at Barcade, Brooklyn, New York. A solid, though not fantastic beer. The aroma wasn’t all that memorable and the beer was a bit thin, however, the flavour was well-balanced with roasted malt and a nice spiciness at the end.

This was one of the saving graces of the mixed 12-pack I shared with a friend. Dark pour and nice maltiness. Not as hoppy as described, but that was fine with me. A little roasted malt and chocolate. Nice.

Muted spice notes in a somewhat floral, smooth dry malty body. Moderate roastiness with a slightly sugary sweet component. A little mocha present in a creamy finish.
