COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Inspired by the centuries-old Bavarian beer, our Harpoon Munich Dark has a dark, balanced maltiness complimented with a moderate hop finish. We introduced this beer in 1998 and received first prize for Best Beer Overall of 1998 in BarleyCorn Magazine

(bottle, 35.5cl, courtesy of Jonas) Clear, chestnut-brown colour with a beige mid-sized foamy head. Sweet and roasted malty aroma with burnt notes, caramel and bread crusts. Roasty bitter and slightly sweet flavour, medium to light bodied with a mild carbonation. A bit slim roasty malty base with notes of caramel, dark bread and an earthy touch; quite dry and bitter roasty malty finish. A decent Schwarzbier-like Dunkel. 25.I.11

Solid beer, tastes more like a brown ale to me then a dunkel, but nice hop profile mixed with some darker malt to give it a nice balance, very drinkable, I like it

Bottlen (big thanks to joss!): Clear, deep amber coloured with a medium-sized lacy off-white head; moderate sweet dark-malty and distinctively toasty-roasty nose; moderate sweet-bitter flavour, light to medium bodied; sweet dark-malty finish with a increasing roasty, almost smoky bitterness in the aftertaste. Nice and dry Dunkel......

355mL. Into a doppelbock glass, it pours a clear deep amber to brown with a healthy, coffee brown head that leaves webby lace. Nose of dogfood raw malt, rye, grist, roast, caramel, sweet black cherry soda. Body adds some roasted coffee, roasted malt bitterness. Soapy bitterness. Palate is light with a fizzy mouthfeel.

12 oz bottle from Kroger mix 6. Mostly malt and roast flavors here. Some coffee and general darker profile flavors. Not heavy though like a porter. Not much fruit here either. A bit too one note for me. Drinkable

A: snifter. deep rich ruby color. much darker than I expected. tan head, good retention, and fair lacing. S: very faint aromas of fall fruits, bananas, apples, and figs. T: not a ton of flavor in this but very nice ones that are present. Apple and cinnamon with some clove as well as some roasted malts. M: smooth and rather crisp. good carbonation level. D: very drinkable and a good representation of style.

Bottle. Pours a dark mahogany with a medium beige head. Aroma and flavor are quite malty -- toasted, caramel, with some mild chocolate and nuts. Smooth, slightly thin mouthfeel. Nice, drinkable dunkel.
