Poured from a growler, very dark in color. Although dark, very drinkable and easy on the palate. Very slight hint of sweetness, which apparently is chocolate according to the bottle. Pleasant aroma too. Not blowing me away, but very solid - at the price something I would certainly enjoy purchasing again.

Cola bodied, decent head. Smells like a schwars, with a smooth roasted grain. The body is likewise, doughty, grainy, with a smooth roastyness. This one feels quite full-bodied. Easy-going, moderately flavorful, and balanced. Nut chocolate finish. A solid brew.

As other reviews stated cola brown in color. Flavor of caramel and roasted nuts. Malty and full body. Somewhat crisp and creamy with little aftertaste.

From the 22 fl. oz. bottle. It pours dark mahogany brown with red hues and a huge soapy tan head. The aroma is toasty and dark with a slight hint of chocolate and a vague hop bitterness. The body is smooth and medium. The taste begins sweet with a slight hop bitterness at the end. But with each ensuing sip the hops tend to expand.

Bottle with an expiration date of Oct 11, 2007 so I made it by less than two weeks. I don’t know which Harpoon brewery this one originated from. Pours extremely dark with hints of mahogany. A tan head. Smells like burnt toffee and some malts. I think there are chocolate malts in this recipe. Heavy mouth feel and the flavor is both sweet and smoked. It’s a good one.

~6 oz sampler at the Harpoon taproom in Boston Logan airport. The pour is brown golden, mostly clear. The aroma is light caramel sweet malt, along with a light roast character. Fresh aroma. The taste is a nice mix of the lightly sweet malt and the dry char roast. The palate is light bodied, natural carbonation and a flinty dry finish. Nice, this was a really easy drinking beer.

The beer is very nice and not to be missed in any weather. You have been advised! $3.99!! What a deal. plenty of yeasty mouthfeel.

VERY NICE somewhat sweet and dense dark brown ale with an ash flavor and mouthfeel. Good fresh malt flavor it is smooth and complex. Bit of bitter on the finish it is a simply surprising hybrid of a German style flavored brew made better! SATISFYING!

Picked this up for around $6 from Harpoon Brewery in Windsor Vermont. Enjoyed in a Hill Farmstead glass.

A - Poured a nut brown colour. Dark brown appearance SRM of 35 in the glass but at the pour, it’s much lighter. One finger tan head subsided quickly with a minor bit of lacing left behind.

S - Very nutty roasted malts. Slight bits of fudge and caramel and grapefruits.

T - Big malt forward taste very german taste, mocha and a nice level of bitterness. Falls short though on the finish and fullness of the malts and has a edge of watery taste but that is sort of in line with this style

M - 85% Carbonation, medium body and a very weak bavarian yeast finish.

O - It’s drinkable, perhaps on a warm day but overall weak and not something I’d seek out again.

Had this at a party. Enjoyed in a pint glass

A - dark brown, slight head that stuck around

S - german bock comes to mind. Dry, malty and very earthy.

T - Smoked malts, some honey and a bit of citrus on the back end. nice balance of hops but tastes like something you’d’ get on tap at a bar in Germany or Belgium which isn’t terrible but not what I look for in beer.

M - 100% carbonation on the mouth swish, lingering dry ness and mild maltiness that sticks around FOREVER.

O - Drinkable but probably better on tap.

Cola colored with a good ring-head and spotted lace. Taste has caramel, roasted malt and hazelnut, followed by light chocolate and hops through the finish. One of Harpoon’s better efforts, deserves a look.

Draught in Cambridge. Dark brown with initial good head and lasting lace. Nice fresh dark toasted grain and lightly fruity aroma and flavor. Slightly bitter finish after a soapy sweet start. Softly carbonated full fresh and slightly drying end. This is surprisingly nice and comforting. I doubt it would be if not so close to the brewery.

Poured cola colored from tap with a mild dark beige head, the flavor is that of mocha and chocolate, with a hint of caramel.
