COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Inspired by the centuries-old Bavarian beer, our Harpoon Munich Dark has a dark, balanced maltiness complimented with a moderate hop finish. We introduced this beer in 1998 and received first prize for Best Beer Overall of 1998 in BarleyCorn Magazine

Very dark pour with a thin head...Slightly roasty aroma...Malty flavor with a bit of caramel and coffee...Lingering roasty finish...Almost like a porter in flavor...

12oz bottle. Ruby red-brown color, small soapy beige head. Burnt caramel and toffee aroma. A very well executed Dunkel, siplay a nice balance between the sweet dark malts and soapy bitterness of the hops. Medium to full bodied, has just a hint more hop character than a typical European version. Not unlike Anchor Christmas without all the spices. Above par.

Malty and burnt aroma. Deep dark amber with a quick head. Taste of roasted malt with a slight coffee after taste. Very enjoyable.

Thanks to Bill for the bottle! Poured clear, deeper garnet with a well-retained, smoked beige head. The aroma picked up toasted nutty and caramel notes accented by sweet earth and brown sugar.. sweet overall and very pleasant. The flavor found nutty notes, caramel, and molasses on the lightly-toasted core.. sour, malty notes and mild earthy bitterness around.. residual molasses sugars on the finish. Lighter-bodied with decent balance on the palate.. sourness kind of takes over on the back, though.. solid example of a not so good style.

Dark mahogany or burnt umber in color. Mediium head that dissipates slowly. Aroma is bready, nutty. The malt is very evident here, with the hops keeping a low profile. Tastes sweet with a sour note and moderately bitter finish. There is also an interesting roasted nuts flavor here. Definitely a lot of flavor, but not overpowering. Medium body with a creamy texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this a damn good beer with a hell of a lot of character.

Bottle->dimpled mug: pours a large, rocky/frothy brown head atop an opaque, brown body. Aroma of malt and some grain. Creamy, thin texture, mildly astringent aftertaste and mildly sweet.

Dark mahogany in color. Has little smell, but for a faint nose of sweet malts. The head fades quickly, before my first sip. Clean taste full of fizzy carbonation. Initially sweet malts dominate the palate, but fade into a slightly toasted/burnt aftertaste. Hints of dark chocolate and coca-cola also come through. It’s not bursting in flavor, but would go perfect with a big juicy burger or some wigs or sausage.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a clear, dark brown color. Malty aroma with a bit of caramel. Flavor is roasted, woody, chocolaty malts with a crisp finish. Not an incredible beer, but a pleasant surprise from harpoon.
