thenick (550), North Bellmore, New York, USA Feb 22, 2008 Bottle. Pours a deep reddish-brown with a large and quickly-dissipating tan head. Aroma is caramel and roasted malt. Taste is slight caramel up front, with roasted malt and barely-there hops. Slightly watery on the end, but the flavor is solid enough to make this a solid beer.
PilsnerPeter (1415), Flushing, New York, USA Aug 30, 2008 Tap at Barcade: Cola looking pour, with a thin, tan ring of head. The aroma has some macro-malt character, gritty chocolate and stale coffee in the background. Fizzy feel on the palate, a bit overly carbonated. The flavor starts with cheap sweet dark malt- making it reminiscent of chocolate soda. Then the late finish gives off hints of roasted malt with mild coffee character, which "saves" the flavor. Pretty simple and lacks cohesiveness. bretupdegraff (64), Fishers, Indiana, USA Aug 25, 2008 not my favorite dark brew. Had on tap at Union Oyster. Bar in Boston... Interesting flavor. Good not Great. fluffy (61), Alabama, USA Aug 22, 2008 pours dark ruby red with a decent fine bubbled head that gets regenerated by the effervecent bubbling. the aroma is off, exuding a weird chemical metallic smell. taste is strong in coffee and chocolate with a strong hoppy aftertaste. its ok but there are better dark beers out there instead. Edgekrusher (45), , Alabama, USA Aug 3, 2008 quickly fading head. Smell is not very appealing, but not appalling. Malty aftertaste is very nice. High Five!! jjuf1853 (200), Land O Lakes, Florida, USA Jun 28, 2008 Bottle from six-style mixed pack pours a dark, reddish brown with a tan head that quickly fades but leaves some lacing along the glass. The aroma consists of roasted malts, hazlenut, and burnt sugar/caramel. Flavor is full and sweet from the malts but some bitterness provided by the presence of hops. The carbonation give a nice bite on the tongue.
