COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Inspired by the centuries-old Bavarian beer, our Harpoon Munich Dark has a dark, balanced maltiness complimented with a moderate hop finish. We introduced this beer in 1998 and received first prize for Best Beer Overall of 1998 in BarleyCorn Magazine

A decent beer, had this one at Sevens Bar in Beacon Hill, advertised as "Sevens House Beer". Malty with some nice roasty toast flavor. A good session beer.

Poured cola colored from tap with a mild dark beige head, the flavor is that of mocha and chocolate, with a hint of caramel.

Looks like cola with no head and only lightly carb’d. Aroma is malty. A little toasted, a little nutty. Taste is toasted malts some hints of chocolate hints of licorise. Medium feel on the palette pehaps leaning towards thin. Smooth slightly dry and clean. An okay beer at best.

22oz Bottle, purchased at Julio’s Liquors - Westborough, MA. The bottle only says "Harpoon Dark" but other references, including their website, point this to the Munich Dark entry. I think an alias needs to be created. Aroma is very clean and solid dark brown malt. Flavors are deliciously toasty and roasted. A solid brown beer. The filtering is a little heavy, but the beer is rather quaffable. Fresh and clean. Nothing mind bending, but a decent American example of the style.

DiarmaidBHK (1528) - Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 5, 2012
Bottle from Harpoon. Pours cola colored with a thin khaki head. Slight coffee note on the nose. Thin mouthfeel makes this drinkable with some licorice notes on the tongue. Clean finisher. Solid example of the style.

From the bottle. Nice chocolate malt aroma, soft carbonation, Some chocolate, roasty, caramel flavours on the palate. Good interpretation of a dark German style larger.

Bottle; dark brown with medium brown head; caramel, coffee, roasty; light sweetness, lightly bitter, coffee aftertaste, thin feel, medium body, average carbonation, long finish. Little too thin but good rendition.

Pours dark chestnut brown in color with a decent tan head. The aroma is sweet, lightly toasted malts which is reflected in the flavor exactly on top of a lighter but decent perfectly carbonated body. It is an excellent example of a Dunkel for a U.S. domestic microwbrew.

Had this at a party. Enjoyed in a pint glass

A - dark brown, slight head that stuck around

S - german bock comes to mind. Dry, malty and very earthy.

T - Smoked malts, some honey and a bit of citrus on the back end. nice balance of hops but tastes like something you’d’ get on tap at a bar in Germany or Belgium which isn’t terrible but not what I look for in beer.

M - 100% carbonation on the mouth swish, lingering dry ness and mild maltiness that sticks around FOREVER.

O - Drinkable but probably better on tap.
