The original German Oktoberfest was brewed with one celebratory festival in mind. Harpoon Octoberfest is brewed with TWO festivals in mind; our Octoberfests at our breweries in Boston, MA and Windsor, VT. We love the style and it’s a great beer for the fall season. In true Octoberfest tradition, we threw our first festival here at the brewery in 1990. There were a couple thousand people here celebrating amidst the brewing tanks. We can’t quite fit everyone in the actual brewery now – last year nearly 18,000 revelers attended our Boston Octoberfest and nearly 7,000 joined us at our brewery in Vermont the following weekend. Prost!

Harpoon Octoberfest is a malty tribute to fall, balanced by a gentle hop bitterness. In keeping with tradition, it is a Marzen-style beer, brewed with abundant quantities of Munich, Chocolate, and Pale malts. Those malts provide a solid, full body and create the beer’s deep color. It is a rich, flavorful beer.

12oz bottle shared. Poured a dark copper color with off white head. Aroma I malty light breadiness. The flavor is lighter than I anticipated. Not as malty as you think for an octoberfest. Has a slight spice in the front follows by bread. Overall decent and drinkable.

Bottle pour. Chan, dark copper with quickly vanishing tan head. Toasted bread, wet pavement, light vanilla and melted caramel candies. Reserved. Taste follows nose, with a little more umph. Earthy tea notes. Crisp, with light body. Slightly sweet on finish.

Bottle from Beer Culture in New York September 2013. Malty caramel aroma fills the nose. Sweetness in the flavour is also good.

It has a thick and foamy beige head over a dark orange amber colored body with good clarity. The head has good retention and slowly fades to thin covering leaving nice slick lacing that slides down the glass as I sip. Its aroma is creamy sweet and malty with some toasted caramel notes and mild leafy hops. The flavor has wonderful toasted notes with sweet creamy caramel and mild spicy/leafy hops. Hop bitterness is mild throughout but picks in the finish and fades off the tongue slowly. It has a smooth and creamy texture that is just slightly sick with good balanced carbonation and a solid medium to full body.

12 oz bottle from backlog notes. Pours a clear copper color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have toasted bread, caramel, earthy hops, some mild fruity notes, grass, pretty basic Oktoberfest.

Pours a darker amber color with off-white head. Caramel malt mainly on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes with more malt character.

Bottle - Not a bad beer but not great either. Has that distinctive Octoberfest taste to it. Fortunately no weird spice flavor on this, but it does taste like fall to me. Dry on the palate with some hops flavor to it.

Reviewed from notes. The appearance was a caramel-amber body with a slightly creamy white film of a head. Carbonation seen rising. The smell had mild hops with some caramel malts. The taste was sweet through the malts, not as balanced as I would have hoped. The palate sat about a light to medium, slightly creamy, sessionable, no aftertaste or finish. Overall, good for the style, decent to me.

Very nice but quite watery as many of this brewery ones. NIce lager hints and not so much an Oktoberfest.
