COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The original German Oktoberfest was brewed with one celebratory festival in mind. Harpoon Octoberfest is brewed with TWO festivals in mind; our Octoberfests at our breweries in Boston, MA and Windsor, VT. We love the style and it’s a great beer for the fall season. In true Octoberfest tradition, we threw our first festival here at the brewery in 1990. There were a couple thousand people here celebrating amidst the brewing tanks. We can’t quite fit everyone in the actual brewery now – last year nearly 18,000 revelers attended our Boston Octoberfest and nearly 7,000 joined us at our brewery in Vermont the following weekend. Prost!

Description
Harpoon Octoberfest is a malty tribute to fall, balanced by a gentle hop bitterness. In keeping with tradition, it is a Marzen-style beer, brewed with abundant quantities of Munich, Chocolate, and Pale malts. Those malts provide a solid, full body and create the beer’s deep color. It is a rich, flavorful beer.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass: Pours redish brown with a one-finger white head. I love the color. Aroma is roasted, nutty, and sweet smelling. Taste is roasted, nicely balanced malt with a little bit of hop. Not overly sweet, tastes a little nutty / bitter on the back end. Medium bodied and a good amount of carbonation, it’s a pretty nice beer, especially for a marzen.

Drought. Amber color with small beige foamy head, bread aroma, slightly bitter metallic taste, medium carbonation, abrupt finish. A bit disappointing with its taste.

Wonderful brown color, thin head. Chocolate malts are a little too much for a VMO in my opinion. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle.Amber with small off white head. Aroma of caramel and malt. Light body with caramel and roasted malt notes with some malt sweetness. Not bad but not great.

Bottle. Clear copper in color with a medium off-white head. Aroma of malt, caramel, bread and a slight astringency. Sweet caramel flavor with a slight pear character, giving way to a dry roasty and bready finish.

12oz bottle into a pint glass. Pours a clear dark copper with a one finger off-white head which fades to a few splotches. Some streaks of lacing on the glass. Lots of caramel noticable in the aroma along with the unmistakable aroma of German hops. A little roast in there too. The caramel malt really jumps out in the taste along with the bit of chocolate malt that is used. Earthy hops are very in your face as is the bitterness which is quite a bit higher than in other Marzens I have had. Sweetness is held in check nicely with just a touch of stickyness and lingering bitterness in the finish. Overall, this is definitely an "Americanized" verison of the style but I quite like it. A little more bitterness and roast and it works very nicely.

From the bottle. Smell is bready, caramel, spices, and slight Euro hops. Taste is a bot roasty malts, no hop presence, and again a pretty clean beer with nothing memorable to comment on.

Aroma is bread/malts, berries and a small hint of spice. The flavor is berries/raspberries, malts, mild sweetness and a mix of smooth and tart in the finish.

Bottle, enjoy by 12/15/13. Nose is crackery, roasty with light hop spice. Pours beautiful amber-orange with a sudsy tan head. Taste is sweet with light bitterness that picks up to medium as the roast increases, a little charred chocolate/caramel malt with Munich, of course, nutty, dank hop spice, crisp medium body with a touch of astringency at the far margin, light herbal in the tumbling malt swish and lighter citrus. Very pleasant, very unlike most Märzen and Oktoberfestbiere, but autumnal and repeatable.

Pours a clear dark amber, almost read. Puffy off-white head that lasts a while. Nutty and malty aroma. Taste is malt forward, sweet. Pretty meh.
