jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA Feb 4, 2008 Gold foil capped 650 ml. bomber bottle, freshness date by the barcode, sampled in a tulip glass.
L: Slightly tarnished orangy copper with a fluffy beige head that slowly dissipated into a thin sudsy lacing. Cloudy unfiltered appearance, this is off to good start.
S: Bock-like aromas, sweet caramel and honey, banana, perfumed apricots and pears, hints of cocoa, brown bread and a light herbal hoppiness.
F&T: Nice soft feel in the palate, moderately airy body, creamy and velvety smooth. Delicious malty tastes of caramelized sugar and toffee, a little milk chocolate, honey and dry, toasted brown bread, along with a subtle fruitiness of apricots and pears. A light herbal spiciness towards the end. Finishes dry, caramel covered pears, spicy hops and a slow, but lingering alcoholic warmth.
Another highly drinkable limited release from Harpoon, balanced and tasty, recommended.
jjpm74 (3110), Stratford, CT 06614, Connecticut, USA Apr 2, 2007 Pours copper with a thin head. Smells of biscuits, spice, caramel, toffee, hints of vanilla, some doughy yeast. Taste is of sweet bread (reminded me a little of raisin bread), nutty, some sweet caramel hints, touches of pepper. Mouthfeel is slick and full bodied which is nice to see. Finish is slightly bitter with some lasting caramel and raisiny touches. All in all a much better beer than many of their previous 100 Barrel releases. tomthompson89 (1148), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Mar 19, 2007 nice amount of head, dissapears quickly, lovely orange amber colour, well hidden alcohol, vanilla. nice sweet maltiness very easy drinking, caramel nose and a bit of alcohol. great beer very nice adrian910ss (1032), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 5, 2008 22 oz bomber. Pours a slightly cloudy coppery golden orange with a thick foamy white head. Aroma of dry hops, caramel and fruity malt. Taste is slightly hoppy with hints of orange, caramel, toffee and malt. Not a bad concoction here. BigBen2120 (564), Derry, New Hampshire, USA May 3, 2007 22oz bomber from Ron’s in Farmington. Deep amber-red translucent body with virtually no head. Caramel malt, alcohol, and nut characterize the aroma. Nut and malty sweetness with come caramel and chocolate notes comprise the flavor. Just the slightest hint of alcohol toward the finish. None of the flavors are overwhelming though. A nice balance of subtle pleasing flavors with unexpected complexity. Slightly sticky on the mouthfeel. Fairly drinkable. Overall a fairly solid brew.
