Volgon (2462), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Mar 17, 2008 Bomber: Pours a clear light ruby with a small off-white head, fresh malty aroma with some light fruits and caramel, medium bodied with mellow carbonation and a smooth mouthfeel, starts and ends lightly sweet with a crisp ending. wilkie (1092), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA May 10, 2008 Bottle at the WBF in Raleigh. Mahogany color, clear, with medium tan head. Aroma is caramel, sweet malts. Flavor is caramel with oak, slightly sweet, very tasty. jrmac (137), USA Apr 14, 2008 Pours a beautiful caramel brown color, with a nice thick head. The aromas are whiskey, malt, caramel, and a bit of citrus. Tastes like a good scotch ale, slight scotch taste, caramel, coffee, cirtus, and a touch of chocolate. Too bad its a limited brew. yankeefan21 (72), USA Sep 25, 2008 This pours a nice dark and rich amber with a finger tall beige head. It has an inviting smell of malt and caramel. There is very little carbonation in this easy sipping scotch ale. It feels smooth on the tongue with a bready dryness on the roof of the mouth. There is a very faint hint of bitter dark chocolate with a mostly cereal taste. This was quite good for what it is and I would feel comfortable recommending it to anyone that likes Scotch Ales. bconger (53), Birmingham, Alabama, USA Aug 13, 2008 22 oz. Bottle. Red-amber pour with a medium, frothy head with good lacing. Aromas of piney hops and Ivory soap. The taste is much more pleasant than the aroma, and is actually quite complex. Toasty malt morphs into mildly astringent hops. It finishes with unburned pipe tobacco and tanned leather. I stepped into a "mudbog" on the Firth of Forth once; this beer is as earthy as the mud that clung to my leg (up to my thigh).
