durhambeer (298), Durham, North Carolina, USA Apr 27, 2008 Dark amber pour. Less wood than expected, or am I misreading the "Barrel Series" thing to expect oak when there is none there? This was both hoppy and malty. Strong caramel presence. A little sweet, but solid.
nearbeer (1051), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Jun 25, 2008 650 ml. Copper-chestnut with a medium and lasting head. Aroma is cola and slight corn. Molasses, cola, slight apple, and roasted nut on the front, with some earthy leaf and smoked vegetable coming in shortly and finishing dryish. Medium body is mostly smooth and turns almost chalky-dry after a bit. heemer77 (3536), North Liberty, Iowa, USA Jun 25, 2008 I had this with iowaherkeye and pepsican. While not impressed, I was not quite as turned off by the smell. The body was ruby brown with a khaki head. The aroma was softly malty with some cola. There was also some moss and a little hint of smoke. There was also a little bit of moldy paper. The taste was malty with some moss and toffee. A little bit of iced tea and some gum also came to play. A strange one indeed. pepsican (634), the beer wastelands of, Iowa, USA Jun 25, 2008 Ruby pour with a thin off white head. Aroma is tootsie rolls, grain, and hello garbage juice nice to meet you. flavor has more of the same, some caramel and dirty socks, paper to round it out. Finishes stalte, gross, medium carbonation. Yack. iowaherkeye (1360), Back in Iowa City!, Iowa, USA Jun 24, 2008 22oz bomber, no date from BuckeyeSammy, thanks! Clear reddish brown with a small beige head, fading to a thin film before long. Aroma has garbage juice up front, some overly toasted malts, a hint of dry meat and cocoa. Flavor is dry dog food and the aforementioned overly toasted malts. Not much sweetness, other than light lactose. Semi dry finish with a little bit more lactose sweetness and chalk. Minimal bitterness. Light to moderate carbonation with a medium body. This sucked. PorterPounder (2749), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Jun 19, 2008 Columbia, SC - Total Wines - 22 oz bomber. Nice dark copper pour with a tight off-white head that sticks around a while. Sweet, malty aroma with hints of toffee. Good rib-sticking flavor with some earthy notes, some sweet toffee, a bit of chocolate with a smoky back end. Improves tremendously as it warms. Would be a good winter warmer. Thickish, creamy mouthfeel. Enjoyed this one after a series of duds from my single bottle expedition to Total Wines!
