Hangover (681), Atlanta, USA May 30, 2008 Dark brown pour with red highlights and a nice looking tan head. Smokey malt aroma with some nuttiness. Mouthfeel is smooth and lightly carbonated. Thin body. Peat, roasty and mild malty flavor. I actually caught a bit of what I would describe as a single-malt flavor, but it could be my imagination. I didn’t taste any chocolate but it was definitely a bit roasty. The thin body and very weak flavors keep it from a high rating but it’s a decent session brew. Maybe this is a new trend with this brewery as I recently had a weizenbock they bottled in bombers as a seasonal. I’m glad to see them putting out something different but this is just too bland... they need something BIG. An imperial pilsener would be interesting...
DougShoemaker (2612), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 30, 2008 Aroma has brown sugar, lots of malt, mahogany, tiny tan head. Taste is fine malt, butterscotch mmmm. Sweet, almost crunchy, very drinkable. Quite good. Thanks Torontoblue. yankeefan21 (72), USA Sep 25, 2008 This pours a nice dark and rich amber with a finger tall beige head. It has an inviting smell of malt and caramel. There is very little carbonation in this easy sipping scotch ale. It feels smooth on the tongue with a bready dryness on the roof of the mouth. There is a very faint hint of bitter dark chocolate with a mostly cereal taste. This was quite good for what it is and I would feel comfortable recommending it to anyone that likes Scotch Ales. KieferUGA (351), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Sep 25, 2008 22 oz. bottle. Pours a light leather color with a thin, off white head. Slight aroma of piney hops and maple syrup. Flavor is nice, with a good thick caramel malt taste. Also, there is a bit of smokiness lurking in the background. Finish has a touch of hoppy notes, but quickly gives way to some sweetness. Interesting beer. taalhiker (111), Dayton, Ohio, USA Sep 23, 2008 From bottle. Pours deep amber with a tan head. Aroma centers around malty sweetness and pine. Good combo of hops and malt.
