I have enjoyed this wonderful winter ale around Christmas for the last 16 years. This is a nice annual treat. The cinnamon and nutmeg are subtle and this ale is well balanced. Think I will grab another 6-pack before this is gone from the shelf until next year. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz bottle, poured into a shaker pint at room temperature. A: Pours into the glass a clear red-amber, not unlike the hue of a good Vienna lager, and forms a two finger head of pale tan froth which dies slowly down to a relatively thick cap. Lacing is briefly impressive, then falls right back down to the cap. S: Caramel and toffee malt, with heady notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice over the top. T: Exactly what the nose promises. The initial flavor is a somewhat bland caramel-toffee malt, which has a rush of cinnamon and nutmeg stampeding over it to become the whole of the flavor profile in the middle, before the spice recedes at the finish. There’s some carbonation sharpness in the middle as well, which seems to cut the malt, and a very faint, very flat wooden-leafy note. M: Watery and overcarbonated to the point of sharpness. O: While I’m generally a malt fan, I am a fan of well-executed malt. This beer seems either simple but poorly integrated, or an attempt at being complex that did not quite gel. It’s not terrible, but it is right around average.

"An ok chestnut colored spiced ale. I appreciate what they’re going for. The beers smells ans tastes of winter spices, but i found myself wanting a beer that was a little more hearty and robust."

Poured from bottle, dark amber hue with a cragely off-white head and little lace. Aroma had a big spicy nose of cinnamon and allspice with additional cereal, roasted malt, floral hops, leather, plum, and apple notes. An OK seasonal beer, to be in the mood for.

eautifully clear and brillant chestnut beer. The foam head was bbelow averah=ge at maybe 1/4 inch.A wispy foam ring with a foamy veil inside was present through out the drinking sesssion. Good carbo’s. Each sip or swirl brought on a release of foaminess that left a nice lacing down the glass. Sweet smelling malts were paired nicely with apple pie spices. Candied sugar. A nice sweet caramel malt taste with apple pie or pumpkin pie spices balancing the malts out nicely. A medium body with a dry finish that lingers well into the after taste. A very good beer for the upcoming Christmas season.

Pours a darker ruby amber color with off-white head. Cinnamon and nutmeg are strong on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes with some roasted malt character.

Drank from the bottle. Date on the bottle was 02/14. Given a six pack from my liquor store boss. Smell is nuts, cinnamon, bread, and toast. Taste was overpowering on the cinnamon. Thin body, medium carbonation, watery. Beer still tasted fresh, but I did not truly enjoy it.

Aroma nutmeg and cinnamon. Decent pour dark amber color long lasting head and lacing. All downhill from there. Quick hit of winter spices than it turns metallic. Bland funky poured most of it out.

OK. Some nutmeg and some cinnamon. Pours orange brown without much head or lacing. Typical Christmas beer, nothing special. Bottle on sale at Chevy Chase.

Bottle: Dark amber color with a short lived cream color head. Aroma was promising with Christmas spices prominent. The spices are the carrier of the beer, nutmeg is prominent, with a little cinnamon. Not much else in there though kind of a spiced water with a background of earthy hops….kind of blah in my opnion
