COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Harriet’s Dark Abbey is our tribute to the classic Belgian Dubbel. It pours brown with a persistent off-white head. Hints of chocolate and toast accent the beer’s malt-forward character. Fruity esters resembling raisins and other dried fruit are present, along with subtle spicy qualities. Medium bodied, effervescent, dry finish… remarkably drinkable.

UPDATED: JAN 1, 2014 Tap at moto-i. Clear reddish brown pour with a nice cream head. Nose is spice and dark fruit. Palate is a bit thin. Taste is nut, spice, a bit of banana, and a touch of dried dark fruit. Good not great.

Growler thanks to some kind soul at RBWG. Pours a dark brown/red color with a medium white head. A sweet fruity, yeasty nose, rich reminds me of Rochefort somewhat. A rich toasted malt flavor, some dark fruit, dry, some heat. Very nice.

Growler shared at RBWG 2011 from notes. Pours a clear brown color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma and flavor have caramel and toffee malts, lightly toasted bread, dark fruits favoring raisins and figs with light spices. Decent, but quite sweet.

Sampled during Minnesota Autumn Brew Review 2011. Pours a hazy dark amber colored brew with a creamy off-white head that slowly dissipates to a cream top and some spotty lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, hint of tart berry Belgian yeast and some toffee. Taste is medium bodied, soft carbonation with flavors of caramel malt, toffee and some mild Belgian/Hefe yeast. Finish is slightly metallic, with a mild yeast and wheat aftertaste. This beer is closer to a Weizenbock profile than a Dubbel.

On tap at the Moto-I sake brewpub, served in a Harriet tulip glass. Very dark brown. Aroma is light with malt and Belgian yeast. Lightly sweet with fruit and malt. Good palate. Sweet finish. A solid dubbel.

Minnesota Winterfest 2012. Dark brown color with a small head. Strong banana aroma, like a hefeweizen yeast. That does not disappate in the flavor. Light caramel malt.

Nice label--the first that I’ve seen to integrate the interior of an abbey church. Decent beer, with a big bubblegum flavor, plenty of fruit, some fresh and some dried, and warming into a drinkable American spin on a Belgian. (on tap at the Happy Gnome, St. Paul, MN)
