3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Starts quite boring: all the flavours are SO restrained and the body is quite thin. But there is just enough green plum twang at the sides of your mouth and the ABV is low enough that it becomes very easy to drink, and quite enjoyable despite its lack of character.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Medium black body, thin lacing. Roasted dark malt nose. Clean and crisp to taste. Nicely hopped. Not too viscous, less hearty than a lot of other stouts. Clean short finish. Very moreish!

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
330ml bottle bought at Great Food Hall in Pacific Place, Admiralty during the ‘New Zealand food festival’ promotion.
Clear deep blackish brown colour with no yeast sediments; Razor-thin head with residual soapy beige foam which fades in 5 seconds; Small sticky lacing and noatable slight carbonation; Quite fragrant aroma of roasted malt, with strong cashew, chestnut, cream, faint dark fruits, black coffee, dark chocolate, caramel, light toffee, light sugar, yeast and faint grass; Very light sweet taste of dark malt, with strong roasty, strong nuts, light black coffee, very light soy sauce, light chocolate, caramel, light biscuits, yeast, light lime, bitter hops and light grass; Light body, watery palate; Mouth feel is thin dark malt, very roasty and nutty with a slightly oily feel to it. Light but solid touch of cream, coffee, caramel, soy sauce and biscuits. Watery but rich, pretty intriguing… Hoppiness is faint grass nose, light lime and grass in taste; Bitterness is moderate to strong for an abrupt astringent finish; Quite dry after taste. Roasty and fairly bitter to mouth.
Comments: A well made and pretty orthodox English-style Stout, with a lean body, very roasty and nutty dark malt, light but expressive tastes in cream, coffee and soy sauce, almost no sweetness, plus good hoppiness to balance it all. Very decent, particularly good for Summer night enjoyment.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
500ml bottle. An opaque black-centred beer with dark brown edging and a one-finger, somewhat lasting creamy tan head. Liquorice, coffee, roasted malts, walnut and a touch of dried fruits. Light to medium body, quite firm but I would’ve preferred a degree of softness and plumpness in the mid-palate to round off the bitterness. Medium carbonation, medium intensity ashy, roasty finish with fair length.

coffee and nuts dominate the flavour here, but it finishes rather watery. very thin overall for a stout...close to a schwarzbier. okay.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A beautifully balanced stout with malt & dark truffle tones. There is a full flavour & light finish that makes this easy to drink.

3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
This is a reasonably good stout. Pours brown, just dark brown and not black, but rather formidable, with a thin light cream-coloured head. The first whiff is a lovely chocolate with raspberry liqueur, just as it breaks under our bite. The nose gets more ordinary as it warms, heading towards the plain roasted crust and esters, which are rather unconcealed throughout the whole ride. Roasted malt taste, with a bit of chocolate and a feeble bitterness, both overwhelmed by the alcohol. It is a thin stout and the alcohol is on your palate. Not much of a discernible finish. No matter how much criticiseable, I’d take that cart with the Clydesdales over any ordinary lager.
