Premium Bitter Beer - 4.1% No.1 is our flagship tawny beer brewed in a natural and traditional way using English malted barley and wheat, English hops and genuine brewers yeast. Fresh and satisfying and great partner to English hard cheese especially mature cheddar. Tasting note: Eyes: Bright tawny with amber and golden highlights Nose: Fruity, malty aromas with grassy, citrusy notes Mouth: Fresh and fruity on the palate with spicy bitterness and citrus, hay-like aromas on the refreshing finish. Ingredients: Local water, English pale ale malt, English wheat malt, English crystal malt, English Challenger hops, English Golding hops, genuine English ale yeast. Technical description: The pale malt provides the main source of fermentable maltose sugar with the crystal malt adding body through slowly fermenting dextrins giving nutty, caramel flavours and enhancing the colour. The wheat malt adds further protein to aid head formation and a delicate biscuit flavour. The balancing bitterness is achieved by the use of Challenger hops and Goldings used late in the boil add brighter, spicy notes. Genuine, top fermenting yeast contributes spicy, fruity flavours in the finished beer as well as alcohol.

On gravity at Wellingborough Town Football Club - Clear amber body, no head. Rather flat but helped out by a decent biscuity malty kick that makes this all the more palatable.

UPDATED: MAR 17, 2013 Cask conditioned handpump Golden Lion Wellingborough 20/06/12. A brown beer with whitish bubbles for a head. Fairly sweet in the nose with hints of toffee. Leafy hops in the mouth. Crunchy malts. Nicely balanced and tasty. Very English but well constructed. Score 3.4
