No. 8 is our flavoursome dark beer brewed in a natural and traditional way using English malted barley and wheat, English hops and genuine brewers yeast.
Dark and satisfying and great partner to English blue cheeses especially Stilton.
Eyes: Dark coffee coloured with dark ruby hints
Nose: Bold toasted fruit aromas and hints of espresso
Mouth: Full and warming roasted fruit and molasses flavours balanced by bitter coffee, chocolate and spice aromas over a long finish
Local water, English Pale Ale Malt, English Crystal Malt, Enlgish wheat malt, English black malt, English Challenger hops, English Golding hops, genuine English ale yeast.
The pale malt provides the main source of fermentable maltose sugar with the crystal malt adding body through slowly fermenting dextrins and the black malt adds dry, roasted coffee flavours.
The balancing bitterness is achieved by the use of Challenger hops and Goldings used late in the boil add brighter, spicy notes.
A genuine, top fermenting yeast contributes spicy, fruity flavours in the finished beer as well as alcohol.

UPDATED: SEP 30, 2013 Cask conditioned handpump Hart Brewery Wellingborough 10/11/12. A black beer with a bubbly off-white head. Dry roastiness in the nose leads to some coffee flavours and more stouty roastiness. Medium bitterness and some sweetness amidst the roast. Pretty tasty. Score 3.6
Subsequent ratings scored 3.7, 3.8, 3.8 and 3.6. Average becomes 3.7

Cask conditioned at Leicester Beer Festival ’15. Dark brown with cream head. There was an over simple malty bitterness to this, some dark roasted malt notes, a little thin on the palate. There is a bitter, dry finish. A little underwhelming.

Almost black stout with a decent tan head. Smokey peaty aroma, hints of chocolate and cocoa and toffee, Semi dry finish. Good stuff.

Bottle. Near black with a firm beige foam. Aromas are smoky, nutty and roasted with dark chocolate. Spices and oil with coal. Toffee with raisins. Flavours are coffee with sweet toffee and mollasses. Earthy with dark chocolate bitterness and blackberry. Good.
