Commercial Description:
A very dark beer, as unique as the tradition that created it. Choice aromatic hops, black malt and crystal-clear mountain spring water give this dark beer its distinctive, nutty flavour. The time-tested historic recipe, the classic brewing method and the secret of just enough extra hops make Hartmann's Erbschänk 1550 a satisfying full-bodied beer.

[Bottle bought in Bamberg.] Nice dunkel with more notes and ingredientes than usually. Good and worth to go to Bamberg for!

From tap. Pours dark brown with an orange glare and a lacing off-white head. Aroma is dried fruity, roasted malt an a solid note of liqourice. Mild butterish flavour with a solid roasted malt base. Dark breadish impression. Butterish and liqourice finish.

Had this one on tap @ In de Wildeman. Dark brown to black beer, off-white head. Aroma of roasted malts, rye, some coffee. Taste is slight smoke, roasted malts and ryebread, caramel. Rather sweet, bit thin, dry finish.

Dark brown-black beer with a red hue and a huge, nice and creamy head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, light smoke and caramel. The flavour has a light sweetness, light notes of smoke, roasted malt, light licorice, caramel and a slightly dry bitterness in the finish.
