A gem among wheat beers. Pale, fruity and heartwarming. Traditionally top-fermented, it is conditioned in the bottle with finest yeast to make a delightfully drinkable, sparkling wheat beer.

Draft at Brauerei Hartmann in Nov. 2013: Clean and expressively phenolic aromas of pineapple, flower nectar, gum, honeydew melon, clove, and a hint of cookie and citrus. Fluffy carbonation. Slippery and thin body. Opens with a pronounced weighty peach tang and slick banana notes. Malt doesn’t pack a whole lot of vividness as it takes a backseat to the estery onslaught. Ensuing phenolic intensity dries things out and temporarily displaces the pervasive fruitiness. Plenty of gum to accompany the clingy and starchy wheat base, though a gummy candy suggestion and saccharine-like sweetness mar the cleanness somewhat. Finishes with gentle flower petal accents amid a subtle nectar push. Soft maltiness precedes a lasting orange gummy candy slickness which lingers. Bit of a mixed bag for me. The nose is pleasant enough and features all that I look for in a well made weissbier, but it certainly doesn’t portend the odd slickness and fruity ester overload of the flavor profile. Decent.

Bottle looks simple but good. Beer in the glass zippy, nice head. Starts yeasty-malty, fruity notes of apricot. More and more dry-yeasty, finish a bit boring-dry. Nothing special.

Draft at Hartmann. Hazed light amber body with a fluffy white head, highly effervescent. Browned bananas with strong phenols in the nose. Thin body for weizen with a rich dark cookie batter and dark wheat bread flavor, texture has a strong savoriness which defies its lean disposition. Creamy toasted bread / wheat. Enjoyable nose, I only wish the body had a bigger presence.

Fruchtiger, streng herbhefiger Geruch. Startet süßlich und liquide. Mitte fruchtig, leider unpassend streng und abrupt bitter werdend. Süßlich-hefig ablaufend.

Test vom 17.4.2006, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 8,9,9,8,11,9 - 8,85
