Clear ruby brown color, nice thick beige head, some lace. Aroma has paper, wood, horse blanket, caramel malt and rye. Flavor is caramel malty toffeish, not overly sweet though. Some balancing soft ryeish malts too. Hints of chocolate. Quite similar to many Finnish Christmas beers, but with rounded mouthfeel this is more balanced than many of those. Fundamental problem in this beer is quickly vanishing and watery aftertaste .. maybe you don’t need aftertaste when you are dining ... Better than Gourmet’s pale version and certainly better than Sinebrychoff’s Tumma Nikolai.
tlind2 (376), Helsinki, Finland Dec 30, 2008 500 ml bottle. Deep reddish-brown color, low off-white head. Slight dark malt aroma. Some roasted malt character and a bready finish. Watery mouthfeel. Light body, medium carbonation. Quite boring. taunusmies (247), Finland Dec 18, 2008 Pours dark brown colour with medium-sized head. Malty, a bit toffeeish aroma with a bitter edge. Metallic, short aftertaste. Too watery, could have stronger mouthfeel. Quite boring beer. mrdasilva (118), Helsinki, Finland Dec 17, 2008 Small head, nice deep coppery color. Mild, harsh, dull aroma. Some vegetables. Nicely malty, soft, calm flavor. Not much hops. Nothing too much wrong here, just a bit too shy. FatPhil (2577), Espoo, Finland Dec 15, 2008 500ml bottle - - K Market<br />
Rich red, frothy head. Dry dusty hoppy aroma, some sweet lagery malts. Very sugary caramel taste. Thin body, OK carbonation. A bit too sweet, and the hops are very thin. Does not do it for me, even though it does not have many flaws apart from the weakness and sweetness. raymondwave (823), Finland Dec 9, 2008 Bottle 0,5 l. Deep red, bubbly off white head. Nose is fruity, some syrupy sweetness, malts. Flavor has some fruity sweetness, malts and maybe even some butterness and hops in the aftertaste. Slightly chocolatey. Not the worst and actually gets quite appealing when warming up. Contains a couple of additives/preservatives, sadly.
