4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured from can into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a hazy orange amber color with a one finger head of thick, just off white foam. The head has a fantastic level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave a great sum of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the beer is quite potent with it hitting your nose upon cracking open the can. The smell is big of a tropical fruit smell of tangerine, pineapple and some mango. Along with these sweeter fruit smells comes some aromas of melon and a moderately strong hoppy smell with the hop being a nice mix of grapefruit, earth, and a floral aroma. A tiny bit of a yeasty smell rounds out the aroma, creating a rather sweet and inviting fruity hopped smell overall.
Taste – The taste begins just as the nose would have suggested with a good showing of a sweeter tropical fruit flavor of tangerine, pineapple, and mango with these tastes being mixed with a little bit of a caramel sweetness as well. There is a lighter bit of a grapefruit hop taste upfront, which creates a base hop taste for the brew. As the taste advances the tropical fruits and caramel fade a little bit, but are replaced by a melon sweetness which maintains an overall sweeter taste for the beer. Other hop flavors of a grassy and hay flavor join the grapefruit hop midway through the taste with a little bit of a yeasty taste coming along for the ride. With a bit of a bready and herbal flavor coming right at the end, one is left with a sweet and smooth, more tropical in nature fruit flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is thicker and chewier with a carbonation level that is on the lower side. For the big tropical fruits and sweeter flavors mixed with the more east coast style hop flavors of the beer, the feel was rather nice allowing all the rich flavors to coat the tongue furthermore helping to show of the blend of hoppy tastes.
Overall – This was a double IPA that I rather enjoyed. Not a hop heads dream, but for me it had a great hop presence all while having a sweet but balanced malt base to make this a very enjoyable and flavorful brew overall.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Full on hopped but a bit thin and bland for the style. Pours a light golden orange with a soapy off white head. The nose is citrussy and fresh with floral and grassy notes. A bit malty with moderate hops and light resinous smack. A bit boring overall.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
16oz can, purchased from Brennan’s in Madison during GTMW. Mostly hazy amber color. Good finger of off-white / khaki head. Leaves good, thicker lace. Medium to bigger body. Smooth, kind of crisp lighter carbonation, nice creamy texture. Light slick finish. Easy to drink. There’s a bigger caramel malt presence and sweetness, but it doesn’t really bother me at all here. There’s enough good hop to balance it out. Nice piney, kind of herbal hop aroma, and moderate caramel malt. Lightly peppery. Good bigger bitter taste, balanced by light to moderate sweet. Full, kind of slick mouthfeel. This seems like normally the type of thing I’d not be a fan of, but the taste works well for some reason. Alcohol is pretty well hidden, less of a bite than others this gravity. Pretty enjoyable drinkable balanced DIPA. Great to enjoy with my sandwich.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz bottle pours with a copper body, thin gold edges and a slight haze while supporting a thin white head. The aroma offers up pine hops, sweet malts and sort of a caramel toffee note. Not a very hoppy aroma. The taste is big with pine hop bitterness and hop resin that is filled around the edges with a less than desirable sweet red apple note as well as grapefruit and floral hops. This is nice and hoppy and resiny with bitterness but the ester and floral and citrus notes just don’t fit in with the sticky pine hoppiness.

Found at Brennans in Wisconsin. Not a huge imperial, but that makes it easy drinking.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle: Dark copper/amber pour with a large sandy head. Nose is floral, herbal, and pine. Hints of a malty sweetness, but mosty hops. Taste is mostly floral hops, but there is a strong herbal and earthy presence... reminds me of rye. Sort of a dirty IPA. I’ve had this a few times now, as it’s fairly common in eastern MT, but it’s no world beater.
