COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Spring-Summer 2012 - The Experiment Ale series of beers is Harvester’s seasonal and rotating line of beers, produced in limited quantities using seasonal ingredients. The current offering is the Raspberry Ale, based on the Red Ale, with slightly less roast of the chestnuts and then over 80 lbs. of raspberry puree added during fermentation. It’s a crisp and slightly tart beer, great for the summer.

22oz Bottle. The pour was a clear light cranberry red with an average (1-2 finger) light tan frothy head that diminished to a thin film with a small collar and had fair sheets of lacing. The aroma right off was full of an abundance of chestnuts, that along with a bit of oats and a note of raspberry but not much else. The taste was very lightly sweet with a light hint of raspberry and candi sugar at first, and then became mildly tart with a overwhelming nutty presence and a slight bitter ending. The flavor lasted a decent while with the slightly tart fruity taste and harsh bitterness lingering on. Mouthfeel was light in body and dry in texture with a somewhat lively carbonation. Overall I find all Gluten-free brews to be seriously lacking in on way or another. Although I guess as the style goes this one is OK, it was however too overly nutty (having almost a sickening scent) but the tartness of the raspberry did help some. I have come to the conclusion that I will never become a fan of Gluten-free brews...

Bomber from Malt & Vine. Pours deep copper with a transient light tan head. Aroma is raspberry over something suggesting chocolate - a bit odd - maybe the chestnuts. Med body. It’s more like carob and raspberry. It has a certain mouth coating quality, maybe oily a bit, that might be chestnuts. Certainly a different brew.

Bomber poured a clear reddish amber with a lasting amber head. Aromas of graininess, nuts and light raspberry. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of carmel, bread, light graininess, light cocoa and light raspberry with a smooth dry lingering grainy finish.
