3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Crafteads. This was the 2008 version and the alcohol was up to 10.1%. Clear and kind of lifeless looking. Very minimal head. Copper coloured but slightly paler. Aroma is nice, toffee and caramel. Taste is similar. Sweet and not really bitter at all, I guess due to the aging. Looks quite thin but the alcohol gives it a bit of a punch. Definitely a sipper. Nice though.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottled, thanks oh6gdx! Viscous brownish amber. Intense toffee aroma and flavour. Lots of caramel, near full bodied. Fairly sweet with soft mouthfeel. Salty minty hops get more evident towards an increasingly bitter peppery finish.

UPDATED: JUN 23, 2012
33 cl bottle as ”Harvestmoon Barley Wine, 10th ikspiari”, BBE 09.07.2015
Aroma is rather malty, somewhat sweet and feels like a german (doppel)bock. Also some berry notes. Flavour is malty with sweetish berries, especially strawberries. Also some sugar. Smooth and nice, but could use some hops for balance. I see no ageing potential in this.

Horrible. Queezy, pumpkin everywhere, uneasy body. Somethings not right here. Had trouble finishing as did others i was with. Lets hope this was a bad batch.

On tap at ushi-Tora I as Harvestmoon Barley Wine. Pours deep amber with a small froth. Intense fruity aroma with predominant plums, but also hints of marcipane. Also quite a bit of alcohol. Alcohol, dark fruit, nutty flavours. Well-contained sweetness. Delivers the goods.

[2210-20090605] Sample. Boozy grains and mild fruity corn aroma. Hazy, dark brown amber body with a quick foamy off-white head. Tart raspberry-like malt flavour has a sharp heavy wheat notes and a sweet finish. Full body. Quite boozy, almost tries to hide it but instead boldly holds on.

Appearance: darker amber on foggy theme, rocky fine top, lighter ring, spare lacing.
Nose: Rich, thick, sweet malts with smooth boozy alcohol. Soft, gentle clean hoping is well blended into it. Solid nose.
Flavor/Palate : Vanilla , leafy green hop on solid chunky malt base. Clean , smooth semi-sipper. Very good , pleasant sample of strong ale.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
In short: Basic truckload of caramel and some resinous hops. Very simple but pleasant.
How: Tap at Dieu Du Ciel (special Japan Night during Mondial 2009)
The look: Almost clear copper body topped by an off-white ring of foam
In long: Typical american style sweet barley wine nose. A whole lot of caramel, no toffee, no brown sugar, no other sweet flavour, just a whole lot of sweet caramel. Not quite enough hops for me but enough resinous character to detract the attention away from the sweetness. Very simple, this is as straightforward as it gets. 7th anniversary brew of this Japanese brewery. Seven year old, the age at which the average japanese boy resolves his first differential equation.
