chriso (4420), London, Greater London, England Dec 24, 2004 Unlike the Harveys MIld, sampled at the same time, this is a very impressive beer. Attractive rich copper colour. There are lots of citric hops, but a good ration of nutty malt backing that up to provide excellent balance. Quite bitter, but smooth and crisp. There’s a reasonable amount of body, but it’s not too full for a session beer. The epitome of a good best bitter. Cask (handpump), at the Royal Oak, Borough.
maeib (4106), Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England Jun 12, 2004 Cask conditioned - handpump - Lord Nelson Brighton. A lovely nutty, peppery nose to this copper coloured bitter which has a pleasant receding head. A lovely peppery taste which seems present in most Harveys beers with, in this case, nice citrus hops. This is a wonderfully well balanced cask ale. tompete (66), Burlington, Iowa, USA Mar 31, 2008 Thin head with a very hoppy nose - alfalfa hay. Wonderful hop flavor and bitterness. I was looking for a tiny bit more body or malt flavor for balance. SilkTork (3950), Rochester, Kent, England Aug 7, 2003 Updated: Jan 28, 2005Aug, 2003: The Pilot, Maidstone. Fruity! Banana. Tropical fruits - pineapple, kiwi, melon. Brown sugar. Good condition. Amber with natural head. An over-riding gentle bitterness. A beautiful ale. [4.0]
